"Joyce was born in Bloomville, January 10, 1928 to the late Dr. Guy V. and Ethel Ina M. (Santmire) Spayth. She married Eldon L. Olds on March 2, 1947 and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2011 after 64 years of marriage.
"Joyce attended and graduated in 1945 from Bloom Township public school. In 1960, she moved from Bloomville to Crestline. She was a member of the Calvary United Church of Christ, Crestline. There she served as secretary, bookkeeper, and treasurer for over 17 years, retiring in 1989. Eldon and Joyce opened up both their arms and their home to care for 22 infants and children of Crawford County over the course of seven years. Joyce enjoyed weaving and crocheting rugs. Many of her home-made rugs are in the homes of her children and grandchildren. The rugs were also created for many craft shows and art shows. Joyce was a loving and caring wife and mother and enjoyed her family very much.
"She is survived by her three daughters: Jennifer J. McAllister, Columbus, Donna D. Bell, Diana, Texas, Lona L. She was a professor of communications at Alaska Pacific University and a poet. She also taught at the University of Alaska, Southeast, at Juneau, and Portland State. She moved to the Portland area in 1994 and lived in Sherwood. In 1944, she married Glenn A. Olds; he died in 2006.
"Survivors include her daughter, Linda E; son, Dr. G. Richard; sister, Flo Rae Booth; and three grandchildren.
"Remembrances to the Glenn and Eva Olds Chair in International Understanding, Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage. Arrangements by Attrell's Newberg."2

"Dr. Olds died in Wisconsin on Saturday, April 5, 2008. She was 85.
"Born in Gregory, S.D., on Nov. 5, 1922, she was the daughter of R.E. and Flo Spelts.
"She earned her bachelor's degree in speech and theater at Northwestern University in 1944. That same year she married Oregon native Glenn A. Olds, who was in the process of obtaining his master's at the school and went on to earn his doctorate at Yale.
"She went on to earn advanced degrees at Kent State University during her husband's tenure as president there, receiving her master's in 1973 and doctorate in 1976. She also received an honorary master's from Springfield College and an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Lake Erie College.
