CHICAGO. July 27.—Leaving behind him only a fiancee and a practically ruined business, Grover E. Olds, son of the retired capitalist, Edwin R. Olds, has disappeared.
Miss Clara Vaughn, the beautiful blond "Queen of Automobile Row," his fiancee, is weeping over her useless trousseau—the wedding , was to have been several days ago.

He was started in business by his father, a retired capitalist, and the business is said to have been profitable, but young Olds is reported to have flown so high in several directions that apparently he deemed disappearance the better part of valor. The Chicago agency, it is understood, will be taken over by the parent Herreshoff company, of Detroit, J. F. Hebbard, its representative, now being in the Windy City for that purpose.9
He "lives in Chicago, Ill."1
""He was in the bus business down in Ill. near a camp. He went to Kansas City, there an auto agent, was also in the Air Force in World War I (told by Arthur Olds, son of Almon Olds)."10 He registered with the World War I Selective Service System on 5 Jun 1917 at Precinct 13, Ward 4, Kansas City, Missouri. He described himself as living at 5200 Magnolia Avenue in Chicago, age 28, born in "Ashkosh", Wisconsin, and his occupation was automobile salesman for Maxwell Motor Sales Company. He was medium in height, medium in build, with light brown eyes and had black hair. His closest relative was a wife, dependant on him, on the basis of which he claimed draft exemption. He also stated that he wore glasses all the time. He had been a Sargent [sic] for two years at the University of Illinois..11

Guy Olds is rapidly forging to the front aa a lawyer. He has had several cases, has run up against some of Princeton's talent that has long since been admitted to the bar, but has got his first case to lose. He has also come in contact with Young, the best criminal lawyer in the state, and knocked him out. Guy is a brilliant young man, well adapted to his chosen profession, and we predict a bright future for him. We have no scruples in recommending Guy to any one having business in his line.12

"Muscatine Man Is Given A Berth In Internal Revenue Department
"Guy M. Olds, who has been connected with the Meacham Land Company during the last fifteen months, has received an appointment as gauger in the Peoria district of the Internal Revenue Department, and he expects to take up his new duties immediately. Mr. Olds' headquarters will be in Peoria and together with his wife he will leave for that place tomorrow. Mr. Olds took an examination for the position of gauger about two years ago, and he had long since given up hope of landing anything. However, the government has a quiet way of doing things, and his name was kept on a list of eligibles until there was a vacancy. Then the official of the department called Mr. Olds over the telephone and asked whether he was still of the notion of becoming a gauger. He was, of course, and accepted immediately."

(from an unidentified newspaper clipping, apparently in Wyanet)
“Guy Melvin Olds, third son of John H. Olds (deceased) and Anna Krimmel Olds was born on the farm south of Wyanet, September 7, 1877, and died at his home in Peoria, Feb. 14, 1916. He was raised here, attending our high school and after graduating took a course in law at Valparaiso, Ind., graduating in 1900. He began practice here, later was a practicing attorney in Oklahoma. In 1910 he obtained position under the government as a gauger in the revenue and was considered as one of the most efficient of the force. In 1910, he was married to Miss Thirza Kinder of LaSalle, Ill., sister of Mrs. George Cundiff, former merchant of this place, who now lives in Peoria, and the two families lived in the same building. Funeral services were conducted in Peoria Wednesday by the Masonic fraternity. The remains were brought to the old home that evening and funeral service held Thursday afternoon at the house under the auspices of our local Masonic lodge, assisted by brothers from adjoining cities. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Ridley, Congregational pastor of Oak Park, Chicago, who officiated at the marriage of Mr. Olds and his now bereaved widow. A large attendance at the funeral testified the respect and sympathy of our people. The interment was in our beautiful Forest Hill cemetery. He is survived by the wife, the mother, Mrs. John H. Excepting the sisters in the far west the family were with him almost constantly and were present at the funeral. It is hard to see so bright and able a young man taken from loving friends and a life of usefulness.”.20
     Another obituary for Guy states:
“The funeral of Guy M. Olds of Peoria was held at the home of his mother, Mrs. Anna B. Olds, on Thursday afternoon of last week. A large number of friends and relatives of the deceased were present to pay their last respects to him who until recent years was a resident of this village, for Mr. Olds was born on a farm near here on the 7th of September, 1877, and later came to Wyanet with his father, John H. Olds, and his mother, Anna Krimmel Olds. His early education was received in the schools of this village. He later completed a law course at Valparaiso, Indiana. Mr. Olds married in 1910, and the day preceding the funeral here was their wedding anniversary. Rev. Ridley of Oak Park, who united them in marriage, was present to preach his funeral sermon. For the last six years Mr. Olds has made his home in Peoria, where he held a good position and was a favorite of all who knew him. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and of the Order of the Eastern Star. A quartette, Mr. J. G. Sapp, Mrs. Con Brown, and the Misses B. L. Hudson and H. D. Weaver, with Mrs. Lee Oloffson at the organ, sang very beautifully “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Lead Kindly Light”, while Mrs. Sapp and Mrs. Brown sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” as a duet. The floral offerings were many and beautiful and were expressions of the friendship[sic] which were his. At the grave in Forest Hill cemetery the Masonic lodge performed the rites characteristic of the order. Surviving him are his wife, Thirza Kinder Olds, his mother, Mrs. Anna B. Olds, three brothers, Bryant and Howard of this place, and John of Muscatine, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Ednah[sic] Sapp of Princeton, Mrs. Blanche Whitney of Couer d’Alene, Idaho; Mrs. Lucy Webster of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Myra Dahl of Earlville.”.2

"The following line is undoubtedly descended from Hanford Old, son of Robert, but through which son of Hanford has not been discovered. A pure surmise might be that it was through Daniel, as there was a Daniel Olds who enlisted from Pittsfield, Mass., 1776, in the Revolutionary War, but no proof of this is obtainable, yet.
"Hanford Olds, born December 28, 17784, birthplace unknown, probably Massachusetts or Connecticut; died November 1, 1843 at Pittsfield, Washtenaw County, Mich; buried in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti, Mich; married February 14, 1802, in Pittsfield, Mass., Anna Ellis (born January 22, 1776, Hebron, Conn; died July 11, 1862, Pittsfield, Mich.); he settled in Onondaga, N. Y; in 1823 moved to Chili or Wheatland, Monroe Co., N. Y., and in 1836 to Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co., Mich; he is supposed to have been a farmer in Onondaga Co., and was a minute man in the War of 1812. While in Monroe Co. he burned the waterlime needed in building the Erie Canal, and in Michigan he was a farmer."1
Hanford and his wife Anna are mentioned in the probate of her father, John Ellis, which was made 2 Sep 1799 and probated 5 Apr 1803. (Berkley County, Mass., probate 11:292, file 2297)5
"The heirs were wife Elizabeth, children Warren and Nancy Ellis; Jonathan and Wealthy Ellis; John and Submit Ellis; David Ellis; Sarah and David Lawrence; Levi and Silence Ellis, and Anna and Hanford Olds of Onondaga County, and Elizabeth and Joseph Fairfield Jr., and Huldah and Daniel Merrills of Pittsfield."6
Hanford Olds appeared on the census of 1810 at Onondaga County, New York, as follows:
     1 m. under 10, 1 male 16-25, 1 m. 26-44, 1 f. under 10, 1 f. 26-44.7

Hanford Olds appeared on the census of 1830 at Chili, Monroe County, New York, as follows:
     Hanford Olds, 1 male 10-14, 1 m. 15-19, 1 male 50-59, 1 f. under 5, 1 f. 10-14, 1 f. 15-19, 1 f. 50-59.9

Hannah Olds was born on 12 Mar 1745/46 at Brookfield, Worcester County, Massachusetts.3 She was the daughter of Comfort Old and Abigail Barns.1,2
There is only one Hannah Olds of approximately this age in the birth records of Brookfield. The marriage records show that Hannah Olds and John Marble were married on 30 November 1768. "Mehetable MARBEL", daughter of John and Hannah was born in Brookfield on 17 June 1770. David Marble, son of John and Hannah was born 3 Apr 1773 and John, son of John and Hannah, was born there on 15 Nov 1775. There is no death record for any John Marble. A David Marble died there 22 Oct 1827. Widow Hannah Marble and Benjamin Millar published marriage intentions on 10 Jan. 1778. They had no children recorded nor are their death records in the published Vital Records of Brookfield. There are no subsequent marriages there for a Benjamin Miller although two are recorded for the name Hannah Miller.

Hannah Olds was born on 20 Nov 1749 at Springfield, Massachusetts.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Jonathan Olds and Hannah Jones.1 Hannah Olds was baptized on 22 Jul 1750 at First Church, Springfield, Massachusetts.4,5 She married Nathaniel Winslow on 18 Jan 1769 at Ware, Massachusetts.6
According to E. B. Olds, she died in 17751 However, she must have been confused with another Hannah because this is surely the Hannah Winslow who got an equal share with Jonathan's other children in the estate of David Olds who died intestate at Belchertown, by 23 Oct. 1811.. According to Noon, Hannah married a Winslow, a pioneer in New York, and died in 1775.
