"A Bright Young Life Closed. Ralph Grant Traylor, son of M. L. and L. M. Traylor was born Dec. 11, 1897, in Richland County; bade his father, mother, brother Ray, other relatives and friends, "good bye" and closed his eyes in a quiet sleep to things mortal, March 19, 1914, at his home in Lawrence County, aged 16 years 3 months and 8 days.
"In spite of all that loving parents, friends, relatives, nurse and doctor, could do, the fatal pneumonia did its work and the death angel bore him silently away.
"Ralph was an exceptional boy, obedient to his parents and teacher and a favorite with his school mates. He ranked among the best in his class and his cheerful disposition won for him many friends. He was genial, kind hearted, and generous always standing "Four Square for right."
"White Oak, where he attended school will fall short of honors which he would have attained had he lived to carry out his plans. He took an unusual interest in educational work and was an excellent athlete always delighted to hear the whistle of the coach. He was faithful to his teacher and schoolmates. When clouds arose Ralph's friendship always rang true. To know him was to love him.
"His prospects for the future were brilliant but God in his infinite wisdom has chosen him to fill a grander mission and do a nobler work than mortals can do.
'A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled.
"A place is vacant in our house,
Which never can be filled.'
"Interment was made at the Dunkard cemetery, March 21, 1914. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rus Bursell of Merom, Ind."4
