During Mr. Olds' absence in California his brother, Almon Olds, carried on his nursery business and was treasurer of Hartford Townshsiip in 1857.5 "
Ira Castle Olds and Sarah S. Olds appeared on the census of 10 Jul 1860 at Hartford Center, Van Buren County, Michigan, as follows:
     872/862 Ira C. Olds, 37, occupation ???, b. N. Y.
      Sarah , 25, b. N. Y.
      Cora M. , 2, b. Mich.10
On 4 July 1863, Robert B. Olds, 37, and Ira C. Olds, 40, farmers of Hartford, Michigan, and natives of New York were included on a list of men in the Second Congressional District of Michigan who were subject to military duty. The list included all such persons age 20 to 35 and all unmarried persons age above 35 and under 45. They must have been single at this time.11
"IRS [sic] CASTLE OLDS, B-1823, D-1895, age 72 yrs. M-Sarah Lewis, B-1835, D-1895, age 60 yrs. Mar. 11/1855 [sic]. Wit. Mary F. & L. E. Rowe, Lawrence, Mich. New [sic -- News] clipping states he was born in Rochester, N. Y. His parents moved to Hartford, Mich., Van Buren County. He started a nursery in Van Buren, Mich. on the Hartford Lawrence Road. He went to Calif. in the 1849 gold rush with Howland Taylor, father of Mrs. Eva Lobdell and two others. In his absence his brother Almond cared for the nursery, located north of the Corwin school. Both are buried Hartford Pioneer Cem., Hartford City, Sec. I, Lot 334. Robert Olds his brother is bur. in same Lot. Ref. Cem., Court, Bible, news clipping."4
As children of Ira Olds and Sarah Lewis, E. B. Olds lists merely the four first names Ira, Ferdino, Clara and Susan.6 I have not been able to document any of these. From census records, Sarah's will and other records I have taken four other children -- Cora M., Clarence J., Albert J. and Castila J. with no hint of connection to those listed by E. B. Olds. This points to two separate families and I need to find a way to properly account for them.
ToDo: Find a way to properly account for the eight children listed for Ira C. Olds --- Ferdino, Susan, Clara, Ira, Cora M., Clarence D, Albert J. and Castila/Estella J. Olds.

On 9 March 1874 in the probate court of Van Buren County, Michigan, Robert B. Olds, Ansel E. Reynolds and Wm. Thomas posted a $2,000 bond. Robert had been made guardian of Cora M. Olds, Clarence D. Olds, Albert G. Olds and Castella J. Olds, all under the age of fourteen years and children of Ira C. Olds of Hartford, deceased. This was an additional bond for the purpose.12
The fact that FindAgrave gives three entries for the burial of Ira C. Olds requires some discussion. There certainly was a least one more Ira C. Olds in Michigan at about this time but I believe that all three entries apply to our man. One record gives the dates 1833 - 1895 for Ira C. Olds. This FindAGrave entry does not include a photo of a tombstone. I believe it may have come from an earlier misinterpretation of some record that has been transferred to FindAGrave and may be the reason Mrs. Yerington gave him an 1895 death date. Another shows him in Hartford Cemetery with his wife. Possibly he was re-buried there but this may just be a memorial stone.13,14
