William Henry "Henry" Kaericher was born on 23 May 1868 at Edwards County, Illinois.1 He was the son of Michael Benjamin Kaericher and Louisa Parelle "Paralee" Clodfelter.1 William Henry "Henry" Kaericher married Mary Esther "Mollie" Couch on 1 May 1895 at Edwards County, Illinois.1 William Henry "Henry" Kaericher died on 2 Oct 1964 at Richland County, Illinois, at age 96.1
     "Henry Kaericher 95th Birthday
"West Salem's oldest businessman, whose active career spans almost three quarters of a century observed his 95th birthday Wednesday with the prediction that he'll live to to be 150.
"And at 95, he is still spry and in excellent health.
"'I can kick a man's hat off his head and I'm set for at least another 55 years,' he declared as he received congratulations from West Salem residents as he moved to within five years of the century mark.
"Mr. Kaericher began his business career as a clerk in a grocery store operated by his uncle, E. L. Clodfelter, 1890 and he has been serving shoppers of the West Salem area almost continuously since.
"After clerking for his uncle for about a year, he worked for Stanninger and Couch.
"Later the store's name was changed to Couch and Couch, he recalled. Two more changes in the firm's name occurred, when it became B. S. Couch & Co. and then later Kaericher and Couch, when he became a partner in the firm, which handled a general line of merchandise, ranging from groceries to dry goods and hardware supplies to dotted Swiss and caliclo prints.
"He remained a partner in that firm until 1907 when the store was traded to a land company in Texas for 1800 acres of land.
"The following spring he became a clerk for A. Pixley, which, for many years, was West Salem's leading general store.
"A year later he purchased another store, operating it as the W. H. Kaericher General Store until 1923, when he bought Thompson General Store from J. D. Thompson and Sons. The firm name was changed to W. H. Kareicher [sic] and Son until he sold his interest to his son Emmett in 1946.
"He continued to serve as a clerk in the establishment until 1949 when it was purchased by Walter Dutton.
"But even then he was not ready to retire. He became a clerk in the Cantwell Variety Store, serving until it was sold recently.
"Now he is bringing his 73-year buisness [sic] career to an end, and plans permanent retirement. He plans to visit his children from time to time, and other than that he's preparing to 'grow old gracefully' and actively.
"And, although he insists that's [sic] he's retired, most West Salem residents have taken the announcement with the proverbial grain of salt. They won't be a bit surprised to see him back behind a counter some day soon, as he marks time waiting for the arrival of the year 2018 -- which is of course the date he will celebrate that 150th birthday."2
     His obituary states:
"William H. Kaericher, 96, of West Salem, died last night at Richland Memorial Hospital.
"Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the King Funeral Home in West Salem with Rev. Fred Kein officiating. Burial will be in the Moravian Cemetery there. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. this evening.
"He is survived by one son, Emmett of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., two daughters, Mrs Vera K. Hill of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Bernice Bassett of Albion; two step daughters, Fern Doty Kern and Mrs. Howard Smith of West Salem; ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A foster daughter, Mrs. Elva Gamper, preceded him in death."3

John Keep married Sarah Leonard, daughter of John Leonard and Sarah Heith or Heald, on 31 Dec 1663.1 John Keep died on 20 May 1676 at (near) Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.
"[Page 155.] John Keep, of Longmeadow, one of the ancient inhabitants of the town of Springfield, in the part thereof called Longmeadow, and was the ancestor of all the Keeps in this part of the country. The record and traditional accounts of him and his family are as follows. John Keep was married Dec. 31, 1663, to Sarah Leonard. She is supposed to have been the daughter of John Leonard and born Dec. 13, 1645. Their children— Sarah, born Dec. 5, 1666. Elizabeth, born Nov. 15, 1668, died Sept. 1675. Samuel, born August 22, 1670, died August 23, 1755. Hannah, born June 8, 1673. Jabez, born December 11, 1675. John Keep the father, his wife and their child Jabez, were slain by the Indians March 26, 1676, as they with other neighbors and a guard of men were passing from Longmeadow to Springfield town to meeting on the Lord's day. They were fired upon a little northward of Pacousick Brook. The man was mortally wounded, but it is said he kept his horse until he arrived at the town of Springfield. The woman, his wife, it is said, sprang from the horse upon the firing of the Indians, and was carried away by them to Hadleigh and killed. From tradition the guards are faulted as cowardly by the following sentence. Seven Indians, and one without a gun, caused Capt. Nixon and forty men to run. Sarah, the eldest daughter, was married Jan. 17, 1683, to Benjamin Parsons, supposed to be the son of Dea. Benjamin Parsons, of Springfield. They settled and had a family in Enfield. Hannah, the youngest daughter, was married Oct. 16, 1690, to Ebenezer Miller, son of Thomas and Sarah Miller. They had a family in Springfield."2
