"Mr. Olds was one of a colony from Vermont that located in Millcreek in 1816, and after being employed one year by a farmer, he purchased 100 acres of woodland, which has been his home to the day of his death. He was married in Vermont in 1818 and brought his wife to their new home, where she died in 1820, and he again married in April, 1821, and they have had five children, and this is the first death that has occurred in their family circle. A residence of sixty-one years on the same farm has convinced all that knew him of his honesty, integrity, and industry. A sincere Christian, just in his dealing with his fellow beings, never had a law suit with any one, strictly would be done by, and has been a faithful example of an honest and good man. Uncle Gilbert has left us, and left a record in this life that he lived in full faith and hope of a blessed immortality beyond the grave, through the merits of a crucified Redeemer.

In the same lot with George W. Olds, Nancy E. Olds and Minnie M. Olds, in the Masonic Cemetery at McMinnville, there is buried a Gussie A. Olds, 1865 - 1868. All four headstones match. Perhaps Gussie is a daughter not counted among Nancy's children in the 1900 census or perhaps there is an error in Augusta's reported dates and she is the same person as Gussie A. To remove the obstacle to coalescing Gussie A. and Augusta, it would only be necessary to "correct" the one report of Augusta's death date.2
