"William Brooke Chapman was of English and French descent. He grew to manhood and was educated in Ashtabula county, Ohio, graduating from the Conneaut Academy in 1846. He at once began the study of law in the ofrice of General Brewster Randall, at Conneaut; was married in 1847,and in February, 1852, at Columbus, Ohio, was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Ohio, having previously been admitted to the Ashtabula county bar. He at once began the practice of his profession, and was becoming well established when the war between the states broke out. He did not hesitate when duty called, and in July, 1861, enlisted in the Second Ohio Light Artillery. He was chosen first lieutenant of his battery and won a promotion to captain, he was wounded at the battle of Pea Ridge, which so incapacitatcd him for further duty that he resigned his commission, received honorable discharge and returned to Conneaut. He there resumed legal practice, continuing until 1873, when he moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, and in 1877 located in Bradford. Here his talents as an attorney and counsellor brought him quick recognition, and he built up a large, lucrative practice of the best class. He was learned in the law, skillful in its application and thoroughly honorable in all his dealings. He was originally a Whig, but later a Republican and an active worker in the party. He was an ardent advocate of the cause of temperance, but opposed to making it the basis of a third party movement. He belonged to the Masonic order, affiliating with both blue lodge and chapter. Children of Captain William Brooke and Cynthia (Olds) Chapman, all born in Conneaut, Ohio: 1. Sarah Margaret, born June 8, 1849; married in Conneaut, September 28, 1870, Charles Flay wood, whom she survives. He was a harness-maker, but during
the last twenty years of his life was cashier of a Conneaut bank. Children: 1. Clara, born June 28, 1877; Edna, March 16, 1880. 2. Phcebe Ellen, born August 13, 1851 ; married November 15, 1876, at Erie, Pennsylvania, Stephen A. Holbrook (see Holbrook). 3. Henry William, bcrn April 6, 1854; married in New York City, December 5, 1889, Louisa Dillon; no issue. They reside in New York City, Mr. Chapman having, for a number of years, traveled for the firm of Mills & Gibbs, corner of Broadway and Grand street. New York City. 4. William Guy Landrum Chapman was born on 7 Jun 1925.2 He was the son of William Landrum Anderson Chapman and Lavada Rose Bragg. William Guy Landrum Chapman married Bernice Sloan on 28 Oct 1947.2 William Guy Landrum Chapman died on 6 Oct 2005 at Richard Campbelll Veterans Nursing Home at age 80.3 He was buried at Wood Memorial Park, Duncan, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.4
His obituary states:
"Guy L. Chapman, 80, formerly of 114 Cliffside Drive, died Oct. 6, 2005, at Richard Campbell Veteran's Nursing Home.
"A native of Spartanburg County, son of the late Landrum Chapman and Lavada Bragg Fowler, he was a retired employee of J.P. Stevens, a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran, and a long-time member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
"Surviving are a daughter, Linda C. Batson of Greer; two brothers, Kenneth Fowler and Ernest Fowler, both of Duncan; four sisters, Mildred Gibson of Lyman, Delores Glenn of Duncan, Frankie Pustaver of Charlotte and Barbara Burrell of Reidville; one grandchild, Chris Jones and wife Christine; two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Daniel Jones.
"Mr. Chapman was predeceased by a grandson, Brian G. Batson and a sister, Grace Boiter.
"Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Dr. Danny Emory and Rev. Donel Kelly. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.

William Landrum Anderson Chapman was born on 22 Mar 1901 near Burnsview Church, rural Greer, South Carolina.2,3 He was the son of William Alfred Chapman and Ella Childress. William Landrum Anderson Chapman married Lavada Rose Bragg, daughter of William Washington Bragg and Nettie Jane Mary Ann Rodgers, on 27 Dec 1922 at the home of D. H. Smith, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.4,5 William Landrum Anderson Chapman died on 23 Sep 1933 at Reidville Township, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, at age 322 and was buried on 24 Sep 1933 at Wood's Chapel, South Carolina.2,6,7

"LANDRUM CHAPMAN TAKEN BY DEATH. Greer, Sept. 23. Landrum Chapman, 32, died at his home south of Greer near Wood's Chapel, Saturday afternoon after an illness of 10 weeks. Mr. Chapman made his home near Greer for the greater part of his life. He was well known and had many friends throughout this section. He was a member of Sharon Methodist Church.
"Mr. Chapman is survived by his widow, the former Miss Levava [sic] Bragg; three children, Grace, Guy and Mildred Chapman; his father and mother, Mrs. and Mrs. W. A. Chapman, all of Wood's Chapel; one brother, Lee Chapman of Greer, and two sisters. Mrs. Paul Jones and Mrs. Harvey Jones, both of Greer, Route 1.
"Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at Wood's Chapel Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Rufus Glenn, assisted by the Rev. D. R. Dill. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
"The pallbearers will be O. P. Anders, Lee Johnson, Carl Hawkins, Clyde DeShields, Cecil DeShields, and Bub Hudson."8

Sister Mary Bragg joined with a letter from Green Pond on 2 Oct 1858. Sister Hannah Childress joined by experience on 1 Oct 1859. On 3 Jan 1863, Isham Childress was received by letter from Green Pond. An 1866 membership list contains the names George Bragg, Isham Childress, Mary Bragg, Ann Childress, Pernatha Childress, and Hannah Childress. Irene's identitication as a Chittenden is helped by finding an Irene E. Chittenden, age 14, born in Illinois in the family of an Allen, age 46, and Hannah Chittenden, age 44, both born in Kentucky, in the 1870 census of Knox County, Illinois. Also in this family was a James L. Chittenden, age 22.4 By 1880, James H. Chittenden, age 32, his widowed father Allen L. Crittenden, age 56, and his widowed aunt Hannah Crittenden, age 55, are in Crawford County, Kansas, although James, Allen and Hannah are now shown as born in Indiana.5
