"CREMATED IN A BARN

"Sad Fate of a Young Vevay Man. -- Met Death While Doing Chores.
"Clarence F. Miller, a young man aged 24 years who lived with his grandmother, Mrs. Hannah Oldsl, about two miles souitheast of Eden, and worked the farm for her, lost his life last Friday morning.
"About six o'clock he got up and started for the barn to do the chores. It was dark and he took a lantern with him. In some way, it is not known juat how, the barn caught fire and Mr. Miller was cremated. It is thought in fighting the fire he make a superhuman effort to save the barn, and was overcome by heat. Before the fire was controlled three barns with their contents and a couple of straw stacks were consumed.
"The neighbors rescued the horses and stock but did not know at that time that Miller was in the barn. The head, arms, and legs were entirely burned off the body. Miller was single and temperate. His parents reside in Williamston. Loss about $1,000. Insured in the Farmers' Mutuall for $525.
"In response to a telegram Justice Ferguson and Constable Rouse went to the scene of the fire Friday forenoon to hold an inquest. The following jury was impaneled: Col. L. H. Ives, George Douglass, Charles Kirby, F. C. Ives, Irving Sanford and James McVey. Several witnesses were sworn and the inquest adjourned to meet as Justice Ferguson's office in this city on Tuesday forenoon at ten o'clock. At the conclusion of the inquest the jury rendered a verdict that Miller accidentally met his death by suffocation and burning.
"Funeral services of the deceased, conducted by Rev. L. D. Pettit of Eaton Rapids, were held at the Baptist church the following Sunday afternoon. His remains were interred in Maple Grove cemetery."4
