Lucy Paine was born c 1815 at Belchertown, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.2 Lucy married at Belchertown, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, on 6 Mar 1858, Cyrus Hills. .2
Page 63 and 64 gives the will, in full from family papers, of Levi Paine of Belchertown. It was dated 25 April 1829. After making bequests to his mother, his wife, to an adopted daughter and to his brothers and sisters, Paine made his wife Lucy [Jennings] and Jonathan Olds the sole executors and administrators of his will. Cyrus Hills was one of the witnesses.
This brother, Lemuel, married Elizabeth Morse and Page 73 lists Lucy Paine, b. April 11, 1815, among the childen of Lemuel and Elizabeth (Morse) Paine
Page 89 continues her story: " Lucy Paine, (Gen. VII, No. 138), b. April 11, 1815, in Hampshire, County, Massachusetts; d. Nov. 12, 1899, at LaMoille, Illinois; m. May, 1836, in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, to Willet Graves, b. Feb. 6, 1803, in Hampshire County, Massachusetts; d. July 24, 1855, in Belchertown, Massachusetts.
Residence: Belchertown, Massachusetts, and LaMoille, Illinois.
"Mrs. Lucy (Paine) Graves, m. (2) ab. 1858, to Cyrus Hill of Massachusetts, and went to LaMoille, Illinois, where she remained until her death. There were no children by second marriage.
Authority: Family Records contibuted by Gratie (Barrett) White, No. 377."3
The following newspaper article gives some support for relationships in this family:
"An interesting law case"
Lucy P. Hills vs. Z. S. Hills adm. of Cyrus Hills
"Mrs. Hills, formerly the widow of Willet Graves, deceased, administered on his estate in Mass. where he died. She got some of the estate. Then married Cyrus Hills & moved to Ill. & loaned him $300 in 1859 at 10%. Since this was not repaid, she claimed from the estate. [I should have abstracted more of the article to show why the case was of interest.]4
     Her obituary states:
          "Mrs. Hills Passes Away
"The death of Mrs. Lucy Hills took place last Sunday. Death has been expected for several weeks and up to the last she was tenderly cared for by her loved ones. Miss Laura Graves has given her entire time to the care of her grandmother, for a long time, and her devotion to her duty as she saw it, is worthy of all the credit which has been given by relatives and friends alike. Lucy Paine was born at Ludlow, Mass., April 11, 1815 and died at LaMoille, Ill., November 12, 1899, aged 84 years, 7 months and 1 day. She was united in marriage to Willet Graves, May 24, 1836, and to the couole were born four sons and two daughters. Mr. Graves died July 24, 1855 in Massachusetts. On March 6, 1858 Mrs. Graves was married to Cyrus Hills with whom she lived happily until his death, May 25, 1868. She made a profession of faith in Christ when 14 years of age and four years later united with the Baptist church, continuing in the faith to the end of a long life. She was a great lover of the Bible and her church hymn book, and from them derived great comfort. She came to Lamoille in March, 1858 where she has resided. Surviving her are three sons, two daughters, seventeen grandchildren. The funeral service was held at the residence, Tuesday at 11 a. m., Rev. Hales and Rev. Hoffman officiating. Rev. Hales preached from a text found in Rev. 14:13. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers. Peace to her memory."5

Thomas Paine married Mary Snow, daughter of Nicholas Snow and Constance Hopkins, b Apr 1651.1 Thomas Paine died on 16 Aug 1706 at Eastham, Massachusetts.2
He is on the ancestor roster for the Colonial Dames XVIIth Century. According to the listing, Thomas Paine married Mary Snow and lived in Massachusetts. He was a constable and deputy to court and died in 1706.3 ToDo: Decide how to handle Thomas Paine and Margaret Pultney, possible parents of Thomas Paine. Virkus, who collected without vetting and thus previewed the quality of much of the internet, reported: "Paine (Payne), Thomas, (1586 - 1650), from Eng., with his son Thomas. to Plymouth, Mass., 1621; settled at Yarmouth; freeman, 1639; 1st dep. Gen. Ct; m Margaret, dau. Sir Thomas Pultney."4 One story of the origin of this family, told without the necessary documentation, is:
"THOJMAS PAINE, the ancestor of the "Cape family of Paine," immigrated to this country, as tradition has it, in 1624, bringing with him an only son bearing the name of Thomas -- a lad of ten years who had lost the sight of one of his eyes by an arrow befroe he left his native clime. From what part of England they came, the traditional accounts in the several branches of the family differ. In what vessel they came, or at what place they landed on our coast, tradition as well as records is silent. ... By some he is supposed to have been the Thomas Paine who settled at Yarmouth in 1639, and who was the first deputy from that place to the Colony Court at Plymouth; and who was living at that place as late as 1650.
"2. Thomas Paine the son -- "the lad who had lost the sight of one of his eres" -- about 1650 married Mary, daughter of Nicholas and Constance Snow of Eastham, and granddaughter of Stephen Hopkins the Pilgrim ..."5 He left a will on 12 May 1705. His inventory was taken 30 Aug 1706 and the will probated 2 Oct 1706. He named his son Nicholas, his daughter Mary, wife of Israel Cole, then his children Samuel, Thomas, Elisha, John, Nicholas, James, Joseph, and Dorcas Vickerie, wife of Benjamin Vickerie. He also mentioned the three eldest children of his daughter Mary, wife of Israel Cole, who were James Rogers, Mary Cole, and Abigail Yeats. The executors were his sons Samuel Paine and Captain Thomas Paine.6
