Pvt. Glen L. Stoner became a part of the U. S. Army on July 26, 1944, at Fort Hayes, Columbus, OH from where he was transferred to Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN. On August 15, 1944, Glen went to Camp Wolters, TX, for his basic training. Some time in February 1945, he sailed from the west coast for overseas duty, arriving in Manila on March 23. He then served with the 158th Infantry, known as the "Bushmasters", and went into action in the Legaspi province, Luzon, on April 16. He was wounded on April 23 in the battle of the Cituanan Hills and died the same day. Pvt. Stoner was buried first in Legaspi with 130 others of his outfit, the chaplain, Thomas MacDill, being in charge of the burial services. His remains were later moved to U. S. Military Cemetery No. 1 in Manila, P.I. The Purple Heart was awarded posthumously to his wife for his merit in military service. At a later date, his remains were buried in Bloomville, OH, USA. from jstoner
