Virginia S. Olds was born on 21 Feb 1893.1 She was the daughter of William Henry Olds and Marguerite W Simonson.1
"The home of Mrs. Henry G. Olds, 407 West Berry street, was the scene of a very lovely wedding at half after two o'clock this afternoon when her granddaiughter, Miss Virginia Olds, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Olds, became the bride of Henry Gratton Hogan, elder son of Mr. Hugh T. Hogan, of the White apartments. The spacious drawing rooms of the Olds homestead afforded a perfect setting for the occasion and the most beautiful flowers which the Flick Floral company could furnish were used to lend their grace and beauty to the charming effect. In the large west room the ceremony took place, the Rev. John R. Quinlan, rector of the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, officiating, and at the south end tall palms and graceful ferns and standards of shaggy white chrysanthemums were arranged in a half circle to form an altar for the ceremonial. The chandeliers were entwined with smilax and ropes of the same were draped over the windows and in the broad archways and masses of white roses and snapdragons, delicately tipped with pink on mantel shelves, piano and tables, enhanced the exquisite decorative effect. The bride's mother and grandmother and other members of the immediate families greeted the guests as they arrived. To the soft strains of the bridal march from Lohengrin, played by Miss Emel Verweire, the bride preceded by her cousin and only attendant, Miss Maribel Olds, descended the staircase and entered the long room, taking their places before the altar of ferns and flowers, where they were met by the groom and his brother, Mr. Frank Hogan, who was best man, and the officiating clergyman. There was no music during the impressive ceremony.
"The bride walked alone and was a picture of lovliness in her bridal robe of white silk net, and satin. The gown was fashioned in an exceedingly becomming [sic] manner, with many short skirts of net, pointed at the bottom, with baby bodice and skirt both enhanced with silver lace. The very short sleeves were of tulle and folds of tulle finished the neck which was cut low and square both front and back. The long court train which alone was of satin, fell from the shoulders and was lined with full plaitings of nulle[sic], picoted on the edges. Her full tulle veil was caught into a ring about the head, finished with an outstanding frill and leaving the top of the head uncovered. The style was very becoming to the pretty bride. With this lovely gown she wore silver slippers and carried a large round bouquet of lillies of the valley and stevia with a shower of tulle ribbon.
"The birdesmaid wore a very beautiful evening gown ....
"Immediately following the ceremony congratulations were extended and felicitations extended and afterwards a wedding collation was served by a number of the bride's more intimate friends. The serving table in the dining room held a very charming arrangement of bride's roses and was softly lighted with unshaded candles. Mrs. Archie Mayse of Bridgeport, Conn., was the only guest from out of the city.
"Later in the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Hogan left for Chicago from where they will take a trip to New Orleans, Cuba and other southern points. For traveling the bride is wearing a stylish tailored suit of taupe velour cloth, with dainty white net blouse and small velour hat of American Beauty shade. Upon their return to the city they will begin housekeeping at once in an apartment in the St. James on West Berry street where they already fitted up suite of rooms in attractive manner.
"The wedding of Miss Olds and Mr. Hogan unites two of Fort Wayne's most prominent society people and their wedding is one of unusual interest because both parties are so well known and so widely admired in the city. The bride is a member of one of Fort Wayne's first families and possesses a personality and pleasing manner which make her a friend to everyone. Mr. Hogan is one of the city's most prominent younger attorneys and for a number of years has taken a most active part in all civic affairs. A more elaborate wedding had been planned but owing to the recent demise of the bride's grandfather the affair was informal, though a large number of friends were included in the list of invited guests."2
"At the home of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Henry G. Olds, took place at half past 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, the wedding of her granddaughter, Miss Virginia Olds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Olds, to Mr. Harry G. Hogan, the well known attorney of the firm of Colerick & Hogan. ... The bride had but one attendant, her cousin, Miss Maribel Olds ... The bride came down the stairs with her brother, Mr. James Olds, who gave her in marriage. ... Receiving the guests were Mrs. Henry Olds and the bride's mother Mrs. Margaret S. Olds. Other members of the Olds family, assisted ... Mrs. Noble Olds, Mrs. Eugene Olds and Miss Carrie Olds looked after the pleasure of the personal friends of the bride and groom who were present. The house was exceedingly attractive. One of the older homes of Fort Wayne, noted in years past as a center of hospitality, it was in handsome dress for this occasion of the wedding of the first granddaughter in the family. Mrs. Olds had always said that when her granddaughters were wed, it should be in her home if possible. Plans were made for an evening affair but a bereavement in the bride's home made it necessary to change plans in many ways and to curtail the list of invitations. ... The groom is a son of Mr. Hugh T. Hogan."3

Walter Olds was born on 11 Aug 1846 at Morrow County, Ohio.2 He was the son of Benjamin Olds and Abigail Washburn.1 Walter Olds married Marie J. Merritt on 11 Jul 1873 at Mt. Gilead, Ohio.3,4
He was a "soldier Co. A., 174th O. V. I. Civil War. State Senator, Indiana, 1876-1880; Circuit Judge from 1885 to 1889, resigned; Supreme Judge of Indiana from January 1, 1889, to June, 1893, resigned; practicing law (1915) at Fort Wayne, Ind."2
"Walter Olds, of Fort Wayne, is rounding out a career of fifty years as a member of the legal profession. He was a Union soldier, studied law after the war, began practice in Indiana, achieved the dignity and honors of the Circuit and Supreme Bench, afterward was for some years a leading member of the Chicago bar, and for over eighteen years has been a resident of Fort Wayne and is one of the chief railway attorneys and counsels in the state.
"Judge Olds was born on his father's farm in Morrow County, Ohio, August 11, 1846, as son of Benjamin and Abigail (Washburn) Olds. [There follows a section about his father's family quoted under Benjamin Olds.]
"The first sixteen years of the life of Walter Olds were spent on his father's Ohio farm, and nothing out of the ordinary distinguished that period. He was educated in the public schools and was seventeen years of age when, in June, 1864, he followed the example of his older brothers and enlisted in Company A of the One Hundred and Seventy-Fourth Ohio Infantry. He was with that regiment in all of its campaigns in the Middle West until finally taken ill in North Carolina when on the march to join General Sherman's army, and was sent to the army hospital. He received his honorable discharge at the close of the war while still in the hospital. This useful military service was a prelude to his long career of usefulness in civilian life. Returning home he attended the Capital University at Columbus, Ohio, and read law with his brother James at Mount Gilead, Ohio. In 1869 he was admitted to the Ohio bar before the Supreme Court, and on April 2nd of the same year located at Columbia City, Indiana, where he began practice in partnership with A.Y. Hooper, who was at that time state senator. That partnership continued six years, until the death of Senator Hooper. In 1876 Judge Olds was elected a member of the State Senate on the Republican ticket, and served with that body during 1877-79. In the meantime his practice had steadily grown, but he practically resigned it to accept a place on his party's ticket as candidate for circuit judge for the District of Kosciusko and Whitley counties. He was elected in 1884, and served until 1888, when he resigned. From the Circuit bench he was promoted to the Supreme Court of Indiana, and began his duties as an associate justice January 7, 1889. He was a member of the Supreme Court until June 15, 1893, when he resigned. Two of the decisions he wrote and handed down while in the Supreme Court were appealed to the United States Supreme Court and both upheld by the higher tribunal.
"From 1893 until 1901 Judge Olds was identified with an important corporation and railway practice in Chicago, but in 1901 returned to Indiana and located at Ft. Wayne. Judge Olds is Indiana attorney for the New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railway Company and the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern, is local attorney for the Lake Erie & Western and the Ohio Electric Company, and represents a number of other large interests. He is one of the most prominent trial lawyers of Indiana." This article contains a portrait of Judge Olds.
"Judge Olds has always taken an active part in republican politics and has served as district committeeman and county chairman. He is a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Order of Elks and the University Club.
"July 1, 1873, at Mt. Gilead, Ohio, he marreid Miss Marie J. Merritt, who was born in Morrow County, Ohio, December 4, 1850, daughter of Z. L. Merritt, a prominent business man of Mount Gilead. Judge and Mrs. Olds have one son, Lee Merritt Olds, who has attained a successful position in his profession and whose biography follows."5
