John B. Parker was born on 24 Sep 1845. He married Henrietta Ridgely, daughter of William Henry Ridgely and Hannah Reed Simmons, on 9 Feb 1870 at Wabash County, Illinois.1 John B. Parker died on 25 Mar 1909 at age 63. He was buried at Wabash Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Orio, Wabash County, Illinois.2,3
John B. Parker and Henrietta Parker appeared on the census of 4 Jun 1880 at the John B. Parker household, Lukin Township, Lawrence County, Illinois. John B. Parker, age 31, was a farmer, born in England, and his wife Henrietta, age 47, was born in Illinois, her father in Maryland and her mother in NY. Her sister Eliza L. Greenhood lived in the household listed just before this couple.4
John B. Parker and Henrietta Parker appeared on the census of 1900 at the John Parker household, Lukin Township, Lawrence County, Illinois. He was age 53, b. Sep 1856, immigrated in 1869, naturalized, and she, his wife, was age 67, b. Mar 1837. They had been married thirty years. Loyd Ridgely, age 85, b. Aug. 1816 and Samuel Ridgely, b.Nov 1840, age 60, were both single and boarders in the family.5 John Parker was an employee of the Southern Illinois Railroad. He owned a gold "hunting case" watch manufactured by the Illinois Watch Company. [A hunting case watch is one with a metal cover which closes to protect the glass face.] This watch was apparently produced shortly after the Civil War since it contains works designed for key winding operation. These works had been made before the War and after the War were put into cases as stemwinders. The watch is also of a size discontinued about this time.
Not long before Mr. Parker's death, he was visited by his nephew George W. Ridgely and Parker gave the watch to him. (The Parkers had no children.) The watch is supposed to have cost quite a lot of money for that time. Shortly thereafter, George W. Ridgely also died and the watch passed to his son, Oscar Ridgely. Later, when Oscar's son, Homer Ridgely, began teaching school, he used this watch and it was eventually transferred to his keeping.6
In the summer of 1970, Homer Ridgely passed this family heirloom and this story to his nephew, Dan W. Olds. The watch had just been cleaned and adjusted and still kept good time.7

Sarah Parker1

F, ( - 13 May 1826)
Relationship5th great-grandmother of Daniel Wayne Olds
Last Edited20 Jan 2015
Sarah Parker married Medad Hunt, son of Simeon Hunt and Hannah Lyman, on 8 Nov 1764 at Tolland, Connecticut.2 Sarah Hunt died on 13 May 18263 and was buried at Pleasant Valley (aka Ashland) Cemetery, Town of Ashland, Greene County, New York.3
The will of Sarah Hunt, of Windham, Greene County, widow of the late Medad Hunt, dec'd, was written 11 June 1824 and was probated 5 Sept. 1827 in Greene County, New York. Her executors were Jehiel Tuttle and Levi H. Alden of Windham, witnesses were Reuben Hosford, Wm. Douglas, and Hezekiah Thompson. She gave her daughter Hannah, wife of Jehiel Tuttle, her personal estate and $750 due from Daniel Gunn on an award made 3 June 1824. On 5 Sept. 1827, Daniel Gunn filed against the probate of the will on behalf of his daughter and as the agent of Stephen Simmons “whose wife is dau of sd dec’d; and on 6 Sept 1827 Jehiel Tuttle one of the exr appeared for probate; to be issued; a citation to Medad Gunn, Samuel Gunn, Enos Gunn, George Peck & Arinda his wife Stephen Simmons & Mabel his wife; sd Medad, Samuel Enos & Arinda are Gr Ch’n & sd Mabel dau. of sd dec’d to appear at house of Mackey Croswell inkeeper in town of Catskill sd Co 19 Sept (end of citation)”.4
When data is missing, theories abound. If Sarah’s age at death is accurate, she was born between 14 May 1745 and 13 May 1746, inclusive. The only candidate from the Ricker Compilation CD5 is:
Sarah, son [sic] Edward and Sarah, b. 28 Aug 1745, Wallingford VR.

From Sarah’s marriage date, I might estimate her birth date as 1742 - 1747. From the Ricker Collection5 this adds, as a possible candidate,
Sarah, dau of Eliada & Sarah, b. 24 Jan 1743, Wallingford VR

Both Sarah, born 1745, daughter of Edward and Sarah (Burroughs) Parker, and Sarah, born 1743/4, daughter of Eliada and Sarah (Curtis) Parker, are listed by Davis6 but neither is shown with a spouse or death date. Jacobus lists Sarah of Eliada as having married Simeon Stedman of Farmington on 10 May 1770, referring to a record of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford and also adds that Sarah of Edward was baptized in Sep 1745 according to a Congregational Society Record of Cheshire.7

One website summarizes the family of Edward and (Sarah) Burroughs this way:8

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I commissioned some research (NEHGS case 219412, Jan. 2010) into the origins of Sarah (Parker) Hunt. Some additional published material was checked but no further progress was made.
Another tenuous Parker connection can be theorized. Medad Hunt was administrator of the estate of Aaron Barnard in 1773. Ruth Barnard and Moses Barnard were the other administrators.9 Aaron Barnard had married Ruth Parker, of Coventry, in Tolland on 8 Nov 1770.10 ORRENDA Barnard, daughter of Aaron and Ruth, was born in Tolland on 26 Aug 1772.11 This hints at an origin for the name Orenda Parker Simmons among the chidren of Stephen Simmons, but I have found no earlier Orenda Parker.

The case for this Sarah Parker has been strengthened by e-mail correspondence with Gar Watson who pointed out a family record collected and arranged by Clement Parker (nephew of Sarah) then printed by C. C. P. Moody of Great Falls, New Hamphiire.12 Clement lists his grandfather's family as
"John Parker son of Dea. Samuel Parker, was married to Sarah Meraw. Their children were
               Chloe, born April 12, 1744
               Sarah, " July 21, 1746
               Josiah, " Sep.1748
               Ruth, " April 10, 1751
               Lemuel, " March 10, 1753
               John, " Sept. 1758
               Nathan ' July 8, 1760
Gar points out that this Sarah was born only a little outside the range I first suggested for her birth, above, and also noted that she had a sister Ruth who might well be the wife of Aaron Barnard, providing a reason for Medad Hunt to have administered his estate. The family was from Coventry, geographically more likely to be connected with Medad Hunt than is the Parker family of Wallingford. Sarah and Medad where both "of Coventry" when married. All these facts have made this my favorite candidate for this postion in my pedigree.

Olds, 3 April 2007) and has supplied a photo copy of Vol. 2, p. 81 of the town record which says: "Medad Hunt of Coventry and Sarah Parker of Coventry were married Novr 8th Day 1764" and also records the births of their three daughters.
It turns out that www.familysearch.org, in the IGI, shows the marriage of Medad Hunt and Sarah Parker as well as that of Medad Kent and Sarah Parker on the same date and place. Thus, some others have already interpreted the Tolland marriage record as both Kent and Hunt.
