Clemence Hosmer married John Smith.2 Clemence Hosmer was born c 1642. She was the daughter of Thomas Hosmer and Frances (?).1 Clemence Hosmer married Jonathan Hunt, son of Thomas Hunt and Margaret Webster, on 3 Sep 1662 at Sudburrowe, Thrapston, England. Clemence Hosmer died a 13 Oct 1695.2

Stephen Hosmer was baptized on 20 Dec 1570 at Ticehurst, County Sussex, England.2 He was the son of James Hosmer and Agnes (?).2 Stephen Hosmer married Dorothy Selden.2 Stephen Hosmer died on 24 May 1633 at Hawkhurst, County Kent, England, at age 62.3
"Stephen, the eldest son, was baptized at Ticehurst, Dec. 20, 1570, but after his marriage to Dorothy Selden, moved to Hawkhurst, County Kent, England, about fifteen or twenty miles from home. Thomas Hosmer married (1) Frances (?).2 Thomas Hosmer was baptized on 2 Jan 1603/4 at Hawkhurst, County Kent, England.3 He was the son of Stephen Hosmer and Dorothy Selden.1,2 Thomas Hosmer died on 12 Apr 1687 at age 834 and was buried at Center Church, Northampton, Massachusetts.5,6
The two Hosmers who came to this country at this time were Thomas, eldest son, and James, third son, of Stephen and Dorothy (Selden) Hosmer. The exact date that Thomas, the emigrant, left England is not known but he was in Cambridge, Mass., in 1632. He was made a freeman, May 6, 1635, and a selectman of the town. Ephraim Howard married Mary Keith, daughter of James Keith and Susanna Edson, in 1688 or 1689.2 Ephraim Howard died on 11 Aug 1750 at Bridgewater, Massachusetts,3 and was buried at South Street Cemetery, Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.3

The marriage of Ephraim Howard ( --1704?, Dorchester), Bridgewater & Mary [Keith] is reported by Torrey with the added information that their first child was born in 1689 and an unusual reference to a marriage BOND dated 24 Oct 1688.5
The marriage bond for "Ephraim Howard of Bridgewater in the County of Plymouth Husbandman and Mary Keeth of the same place spinster" dated 24 Oct. 1688 with Jonathan Howard of Bridgewater, Husbandman, surety, signed by Ephraim Haward and Jonathan Haward and with Jonathan Frankline and Jno. Bonamy as witnesses is preserved in Suffolk Court Files, Nos. 129996 to 130016.

Other Ephraim Howards existed at the time. One was "Epraim ye sonne of Samuell Howard & of Isabell his wife borne 23 Febr. 1661" [Ref. NEHGR Vol. 16, Jan. 1862, p. 47, Boston Records] and one (possibly the same) was "Here Lyes ye Body of Ephraim Howard Aged About 40 Years Departed This Life May ye 12 1704." [Ref. NEHGR Vol. 4, July 1850, p. 277, Dorchester Inscriptions.] This appears to be the death date to which Torrey referred.
John Galen Howard, d. 1931, was reported as a descendant of John Howard, immigrant to Plymouth Colony about 1630, through his son Ephraim, 1667-1750, who married Mary Keith and had Ephraim, b. 1697.

The Howard Genealogy by Heman Howard (1903) says Lt. John Howard died in 1700 nand his estate inventory was taken in October of the next year. He prints a copy of the estate division.
