In a letter of 12 July 2005, Marie said: "On Mother's great grandchildren I can only come up with 21 at the time of her death. That is counting Wallace's step children and a son, Val Joe that Joe Smith had before he and Doris were married. I am thinking that one of Wallace's step children was married and had a baby. Maybe that is the way we got 22 great grandchildren. When Daddy and Addie were divorced Daddy took Lee and she took Margaret Josephine. Margaret Josephine and Lee [saw] very little of each other after that."
