"Lloyd Warner Olds was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and received his early education in the pubic schools of that city. He holds the B. A. degree from Michigan State Normal College and the M. S. and D. P. H. degrees from the University of Michigan. Dr. Olds had ten years' experience as organizer, supervisor, and consultant in physical edujcation and recreation in Michigan public schools before entering college teaching and coaching. At present, he is a professor of health, physical education and recreation at Michigan State Normal College in Ypsilanti.
"Dr. Olds served in the U. S. Navy in two world wars. In World War II he was active in the planning of the physical fitness program and was commanding officer of the U. S. Navy physical fitness program for the Eleventh Naval District, San Diego, California, 1942-45. In 1945-47, as a commander, he was officer-in-charge of the physical fitness program for the Bureau of Personnel, Washington, D. C. He received the Navy Commendation Award for Meritorious Service. He served as associate Olympic track and field coach in 1932, coach and manager of the American-Scandanavian team in Europe in 1935, and coach and manager of the American team for the Pan-American Games in Texas in 1939. Lottie L. Olds1

F, (Oct 1877 - 1972)
Father*Kingsley Elisha Olds1 (1 Nov 1839-31 Jul 1907)
Mother*Lydia Melissa Graham1 (10 Jan 1848-20 Jul 1945)
Last Edited18 Feb 2022
Lottie L. Olds was born in Oct 1877 at Wisconsin.2 She was the daughter of Kingsley Elisha Olds and Lydia Melissa Graham.1 Lottie L. Olds died in 1972.3 She was buried at Masonic and Van Buren Cemetery, Van Buren, Carter County, Missouri.4
Her obituary states: Lottie Olds Christine was born on October 23, 1877 on a farm in southern Wisconsin. She was the youngest of three sisters, daughters of Lydia M. and Kingsley E. Olds. Her parents were pioneers in that community and her father had served the full four years in the Civil War in the Union Army.
All of her sisters having married she moved with her parents to Warren, Illinois, upon their retirement. There she attended and graduated from the Warren Academy, a preparatory school for Beloit College.
Following the death of her father in 1907 she was visited by her mother’s cousin, George T. Lee, and invited to come to Van Buren. Mr. Lee was a pioneer merchant and banker there and at that time was the manager of the Van Buren Mercantile Company and cashier of the Carter County Bank. Lottie Olds accepted the invitation and arrived in Van Buren in 1908 to start a new career as a buslness woman by becoming Mr. Lee’s assistant. At this time the brick building on the south side of the square had not been built; so the store was in a two story frame building where the library is located now, and the bank was in the old building to the east of the present bank.
The years of 1912 and 1914 brought a great change in her life. In 1912 lightning took the life of her oldest sister's husband; and so this sister, Mrs. Carrie Snider and her four small sons, joined Lottie in Van Buren. They built the house in the second block east of the square and lived there. Then upon the death of her sister, Carrie, in 1914, Lottie made a great magnanimous decision. She stepped into
the breach and >ecame the new mother of her sister's boys, Herbert, Edward, Warren and Joseph Snider.
All of the boys having left Van Buren, Lottie left too in 1923. She joined Herbert Snlder and his new wife, Lulu, in St. Louis. In 1925 she married Clyde M. Christine. Then she lived in University City and Oklahoma City for a few years but eventually moved back to Van Buren. There in 1938 her husband passed away.
Lottie Christine continued to live alone in the same house that had been the home of the boys also. Those thirty odd years were spent quietly and enjoyably until her vision began to fail. Then on September 3,1969 she fell in her kitchen and broke her hip. By that time her vision had almost all gone and her life passed away gradually as a hospital patient and a nursing home resident at the Riverways Manor Nursing Home. The end came at eight p.m. on Monday January 31, 1972 at the age of 94.
At one p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, services were held in the United Methodist Church. The Reverend A. H. Daniel, a former pastor and friend, conducted the service with the assistance of the Reverend Hodge, the present pastor. The pallbearers, all old-time friends were Clyde Mann, C. D. McKinney, Emery Bowen, Gentry Bowen, Marlin McClintock and Ralph Moss. The funeral was in
charge of the McSpadden funeral service and burial was in the Van Buren Cemetery.
Mrs. Christine was a member of the Methodist Church for over sixty years. She was an active member of the Neighbors Club for many years and also, as a Rebekah, a recipient
of the 50 year pin.
She leaves behind her "adopted" boys and their families. They are Herbert A. Snider of Van Buren, Edward M. Snider and Warren A. Snider of St. Louis and Joseph K. Snider of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. The children of the boys, have affectionately called her "Grandma Lottie". Other nephews and nieces are Mrs. Eli Parry of Primghar, Iowa, Faye Irvine of Cleghorn, Iowa, and George Irvine of Sanborn, Iowa.5
