John Charles "Jack" McNamara was born on 7 Mar 1925 at Winterset, Madison County, Iowa.1,2,3 He was the son of John "Charles" McNamara and Alice Lorraine Beem. John Charles "Jack" McNamara married (2) Dorothy A. Seven on 20 May 1965 at Orange County, California.4 John Charles "Jack" McNamara filed for divorce from Dorothy A. Seven in Jul 1966.5 John Charles "Jack" McNamara married (3) Phyllis Jackson.6,7 John Charles "Jack" McNamara died on 6 Apr 2001 at California at age 76; Phyllis (Jack's wife) called Aunt Leah on 6 April who reported this to Mom by phone and in a card sent to Betty Olds on 7 April 2001.
His obituary was published in the Orange County (CA) Register for 26 April 2001, under Laguna Beach Obituaries.
"John Charles McNamara, 76, a lawyer, died April 6 of cardiomyopathy. Services were held at Riverside National Cemetery. Arrangements by McCormick & Son Mortuary, Laguna Beach.
"Survivors: wife, Phyllis; daughter, Lynn Berkowitz; stepdaughters, Wendee Streeter, Teena Seckler, Shawna Johnson; five grandchildren."
In a 6 Jan 1967 letter Jack comments on hearing that Charles and Leah were both interested in playing bridge, both individually and together. He recommended "Winning Contract Bridge Complete" by Edgar Kaplan. He said that he had not played much since he and Dotty separated. "She was an excellent player and we played well as partners."
His Christmas had been long and lonely. He did not see or talk with anyone on Christmas Day, which was the first time in 41 years he had spent a Christmas absolutely alone. The following day he had driven over to Palm Springs and had lunch with Lynn. He had also visited with Al and Lois.
"It wasn't until last week that I finally got a completed Death Certificate on Dotty from the Coroner's Office. I guess the pathology and toxology[sic] tests were exhaustive. The conclusions were that death was caused by 'total fibrosis of the pancreas' due to diabetes mellitus with bronchial pnemonia [sic] as a complicating or contributing factor."8
On 15 Feb 1967, Jack writes that he was back living in Dotty's apartment at 2605A Del Way, Huntingdon Beach. He had been having some prostrate gland problems which should clear up shortly. He also had been attending AA meetings on a regular basis and "continued my program of complete and total abstension from alcohol." He had played tennis again for a couple of days and gotten quite sore.9
