Jan was retired from Southern Bell Company (Bell South) after over 35 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was a member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church and a former member of the church choir. Jan was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, Class of ‘48, and a member of the class reunion committee.
Survivors are a stepson, William P. “Joe” Hope; a stepdaughter, Melody Hope Parker; two step-grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren, 1 step-great, great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Jan was predeceased by sisters, Marjorie Barnett Seay and Katherine Barnett Javier and a brother, Kermit Barnett.
Cryptside services will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC, 29307, on Monday, April 18, 2022, 1:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Todd Lowe. The family will receive friends following the service.

The Rev. Mr. SMITH, assisted by the Rev. R. R. BRADY, officiating. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery, beside his wife who died 16 years ago. Mr. BARNETT was born and reared in Greenville County, moving to Spar[t]anburg County some 25 years ago. At the time of his death he was a member of the Converse Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons, D. F. BARNETT of Landrum Route 2, W. R. BARNETT of Spartanburg Route 1, and B. S. "UNION -- William R. Barnett, 79, of Union, died Saturday morning at &:50 at Wallace Thomson Hospital in Union. He was a carpenter and had lived for a number of years in Spartanburg.
"Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, Della King Barnett of Union; three daughters, Mrs. H. E. Bishop of Union; Mrs. H. H. Lewis of Spartanburg and Mrs. F. E. Wright of Converse; one son, O. R., of Union; one brother, B. S. of Route 2 Spartanburg; two sisters, Mrs. Thursa Patton of Spartanburg and Mrs. Cora Hall of Greenville, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
"Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 5 at Central Church of Christ by Ministers Bruce R. Cudd, Ernest Thigpen and J. B. Potter Jr. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
"The body will be at M. W. Bobo Funeral Chapel until Sunday afternoon at 4 at which time it will be placed in the church.
"The family is at the home of Mrs. F.E. Wright at Converse."8

Jesse Barns was born on 7 Nov 1744 at Brookfield, Worcester County, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Moses Barns and Hannah Old.1 Jesse Barns married Patience Gilbert, daughter of Uriah Gilbert and Elizabeth Old, on 8 Dec 1763 at Brookfield, Worcester County, Massachusetts.2,3 Jesse Barns died on 18 Nov 1823 at age 79.4
