"Ezekiel Olds, resident at Albany, is the fifth child of Cheney and Amma (Walker) Olds, of whom a full and detailed account is given in connection with the sketch of Warren Olds. He was born Oct. 24, 1826, in Sturbridge, Worcester Co., Mass., and was a child of nearly two years when his parents removed to the State of New York. In his 12th year the memorable transit of the family to Whiteside County was accomplished, the events of which made a lasting impression on the remembrance of the lad, who found its novelty entertaining, notwithstanding its tedious length.
"At the age of 18 Mr. Olds began to work with his brother Warren as a carpenter and joiner, operating in that avenue of business continually until 1880, when he became interested in the grwing of small fruits, which enterprise has since occupied his attention. He is engaged in the cultivation of raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and grapes.

Ezekiel P. Olds was born on 15 Apr 1832 at Barre, Vermont.2 He was the son of Samuel Olds and Polly Fuller.1 Ezekiel P. Olds married Ellen M. Gale on 6 Mar 1860 at Montpelier, Vermont.2 Ezekiel P. Olds died on 9 Apr 1911 at Barre, Vermont, at age 78.2
Ezekiel P. Olds appeared on the census of 1860 at Williamstown, Orange County, Vermont, as follows:
Ezekiel P. Olds appeared on the census of 9 Jun 1900 at Barre, Washington County, Vermont, as follows:
Ezekiel P. Olds appeared on the census of 21 Apr 1910 at 175 Ashington Street, Barre, Washington County, Vermont, as follows:
Olds, Ezekiel P., head, 78, widowed, b. Vt., father b. Vt., mother b. Conn.5
The will of Ezekiel P. Olds was contested by his brother Alexander R. Olds, a fact which resulted in some newspaper reports. An abstract from one follows:
"Will Sustained in the Olds Case
"Verdict Returned in County Court Today in Favor of H. Austin Tuttle, Who Was Named as Beneficiary.
"A verdict was returned in Washington county court this afternoon sustaining the will of the late Ezekiel P Olds of Barre, the contest having been brought by his brother Alexander R. Olds, aged 84 years, of New York. . . . John W. Gordon opened the defense side ot the case.
"Mr. Gordon argued that the jury could not know what feeling may have existed between the testator and the appellant, Alexander R. Olds. They were brothers, but there may have been something that changed the natural affection between the brothers. With Ezekiel in his grave this can never be known. But it is known that Mr. Tuttle married a daughter of Mr. Olds and that that daughter died within three years of the marriage. Mr. Tuttle did not remarry for many years, but the evidence shows he always was in the place of a son to Ezekiel Olds. He cared for him and looked after his interests and Mr. Olds named him executor of the will which left the residue of an estate worth some $14,000 to the executor after paying some small bequests.
"H. J. Conant, opening for the contestant Olds said the question before the jury was whether or not the papers in evidence were the last will and testiment of E. P. Olds. W. A. Lord, closing for the contestant, said that through the feeling planted in the human heart by the Almighty, blood is thicker than water and when that ceases to be case, the human race is paralyzed. The right of a man to distribute his property is undisputed, except statutory provisions regarding his wife. If a man is in that mental and physical condition known as full testamentary capacity, he can will his property and no matter how unjust a division he may make, it is valid.
"A brother is close kin. Between brother and brother there exists affection springing from the heart. With a brother 80 years of age, without financial resources, in whom would Ezekiel P. Olds be likely to have wanted to will his property, or the bulk of it, if not to his brother. He had said that he gave his brother $300, but no such provision appears in what is offered as the last will and testament of E. P. Olds. The witnesses and the milkman knew more about the contents of the will than did Tuttle, before the will was read. If E. P. Olds did not know whether or not he had given his brother $300, then he was not in a state of mind capable of making a will and if he did know and did make such provision, then this exhibit is not his last will."6 He "was a farmer and lived at South Barre, Vt."2

He served in the Revolutionary War, moved to Ohio about 1800 and settled in Delaware Co.7 The record of his service has been abstracted as follows: "Private, Capt. John Banister's co., Col. Job Cushing's regt; engaged Sept. 7, 1777; discharged Nov. 29, 1777; service 3 mos. 2 days in Northern department, including 9 days (180 miles) travel home; also, list of men, dated Brookfield, June 30, 1778, showing service credited to them, respectively, as returned by the committee chosen to make an average of the service rendered to the credit of the 3d Precinct of Brookfield; total amount of service rendered made to average 5 1/2 months for each single poll in said precinct; said Olds credited with 6 1/2 mos. service."
Ezra Olds appeared on the census of 1790 at Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, as follows:
Olds, Ezra, 1 male under 16, 2 males 16 or over, and 3 females.8
Ezra Olds appeared on the census of 1800 at Exeter Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, as follows:

"Ezra Olds, Sr., who is our direct ancestor, is recorded as being the first settler of Oxford township, Delaware county, Ohio. He located in the northwest quarter of the township in 1810. The section was declared as Oxford township in 1815, and the location called Windsor Corners. Here he built the first log cabin, a structure 20 feet square."10
The settlement of Oxford Township began nearly as early as any other part of the county, but it grew up very slowly for several years. In the year 1810, a settlement was begun in the northwest quarter of the township, around what is now known as Windsor's Corners. The first settler in this section was the father of Ezra and Comfort Olds, who built the first cabin, a log structure, twenty feet square. In the fall of the same year, or perhaps the following spring, Henry Foust, a young unmarried man, settled on a farm a short distance east of the Olds farm. He was married, in 1812, to Mary Olds, and lived on the place until 1878, clearing the forest by his own effort, and raising a large family. The youngest child, Albert, still lives on the homestead. Old Mr. Olds often related, during the latter part of his life, of his going to election in Oxford Township when there were but five voters, who appointed him the first juror from the township in the courts of Delaware County.11

Ferdino Olds married Irene Cone.1 Ferdino Olds was born in 1800 at Connecticut.1,2 He was the son of Joseph Olds and Hannah Bissell.1 Ferdino Olds died on 20 Oct 18561 and was buried at Pioneer Cemetery, Hartford, Van Buren County, Michigan.3
"The first actual settlers in the township were Ferdino Olds and family, consisting of his wife and daughter Julia (now Mrs. Ansel E. Reynolds). Mr. Olds was a native of Cayuga Co., N. Y., emigrated to this place in December, 1836, and located land on the middle of the north half of section 29, where W. H. Haven now lives. On coming through to the place the family stopped at the house of Lyman G. Hill (who was the nearest settler and lived in the northeast part of Keeler township) while he put up a small log cabin, which was occupied Jan. 25, 1837, on which day the family moved into it. Here they lived a short time, but the family increased so rapidly that a larger house had to be built, and a family of ten children were raised, nine of whom are lving. Mr. Olds died in October, 1856.
"His brothers, Hezekiah and John, came in soon after. The latter settled on the southwest quarter of section 20, adjoining Ferdino; Hezekiah was (and still is) a bachelor and lived with John; Orson settled south of John on the same quarter-section, and now lives in the village. His farm was sold to Sylvester McNitt. Ira and Harry came in later. Ira settled on section 28, where William Day resides, and now lives in Keeler, near the north line. Harry was a carpenter. He lived here a few years and returned to New York. Edwin R. Olds, a son of Orson, married Harriet, a daughter of Ferdino Olds, and in 1858 bought the farm now owned by A. N. Spaulding on the northeast quarter of section 28, and was engaged in farming and lumbering for a number of years. He removed to the village and built the first hotel, known as the Olds House. He is now engaged in buying stock, grain, and wool, and is one of the foremost business men in the town. Ransom and Allen are sons of Orson, and are engaged in the manufacture of sash, doors, and blinds, and are also building contractors."4 "He was the first settler in Van Buren Co., Mich., 1837."1
Ferdino Olds and Irene Olds appeared on the census of 19 Sep 1850 at Town of Hartford, Van Buren County, Michigan, as follows:
Yerington lists five children for Ferdino Olds: Julia, Hallis [??], Harriet, Aaron, and Alonzo.5
According to the estate papers of Ferdino Olds late of Hartford, Van Buren county, Michigan, his widow and executrix, Irena Olds, filed a petition in probate court stating that Ferdino had died, intestate, on 20 October 1856 and she asked that his estate be divided. After her dower (one third part) was set off, the remainder of the real estate was to be divided into ten parts with a one-tenth part going to each of: Julia Re[y]nolds, Alonzo Olds, Rosetta Olds, Harri[e]tt Olds, Sarah Olds, Wilson Olds, Lorenzo Olds, Rosealine Olds, Aaron Olds, and Franklin Olds, all of Van Buren county, children and heirs at law of Ferdino Olds, deceased. Irena Olds was guardian of Alonzo Olds, Harr[i]et Olds, Sarah Olds, Wilson Olds, Lorenzo Olds, Rosette Olds, Rosealine Olds, Aaron Olds, Franklin Olds & Sarah Minors. [Sarah appears to have been repeated in error at the end of this list.] (Petition and Probate Court order dated 27 March 1859 and 11 April 1859).6
