Hannah Marsh was born c 1655.3,4 She was the daughter of John Marsh and Anne Webster.1,2 Hannah Marsh married Joseph Loomis, son of Deacon John Loomis and Elizabeth Scott, on 28 Jan 1675.5,6 Hannah Marsh died in 1703.
Although several authors have, without expressing doubt, stated that the Hannah Marsh who married Joseph Loomis was the daughter of John Marsh and Hepzibah (Ford) Lyman Marsh, the chronology can not work. The 1655 birth date used for Hannah is probably estimated from her marriage date. It is not available in the Northampton records but could not have been much later. Richard Lyman, born in 1617, married Hepzibah Ford about 1641and did not die until 1662. (They did have a daughter Hannah Lyman, born 1660, but she married Joseph Pomeroy in 1677.) Hepzibah next married John Marsh in 1664. She died in 1683 and he died in 1688; she was still the wife of Richard Lyman when Hannah Marsh was born. The Hannah Marsh who married Joseph Loomis was not a daughter of Hepzibah but of John's first wife, Anne Webster. For further evidence, see John Marsh (b. 1618) and Hannah Lyman (b. 1660).

"And all said Legacies, my will is, that my Executors see faithfully discharged. And I do constitute and appoint my loving sons, John Marsh and Samuel Marsh, to be Executors to this my will annulling and making voide all former wills at any time by me willed or bequeathed.
John Marsh

An inventory of his estate had already been entered at Windsor on 27 Nov 1688.10
The Marsh Genealogy says that the eight children of John Marsh and Anne Webster were all born at Hartford, Connecticut.4
This will is not dated but note that Hepzibah is not mentioned (d. 1683), daughter Hannah Loomis is married (1675), daughter Lydia is not married (1692), and grandson Baker exists (b. 1675).

More information on the family of John Marsh is gleaned from a document held by the Secretary of State of Connecticut. Dated 25 May 1705 it presents a case for the New England nieces and nephews of Joseph Marsh, of Braintree, Essex, England, deceased.
"John Marsh heirs: Letters of attorney to Joseph Merrian and Mr. Allyn Buckham in England. To all to whom these presents shall come: We, John Marsh, Samuel Marsh, Jonathan Marsh, Daniel Marsh, Hannah Marsh, Lydia Marsh and Grace Phelps, seven of the nephews and nieces of Joseph Marsh the older of late of Braintree in the county of Essex, clothier, deceased, residing in New England, Send greeting in our Lord Everlasting.
"Whereas the said Joseph Marsh the older, the Testator, in and by his last will and Testament, in writing bearing date on or about the two and twentieth day of May, Anno Domini one thousand six hundred seventy and six, did (amongst other things) give, bequeath, demise and appoint in those words or in words to the effect following (viz.) Item: I give and bequeath my freehold lands and tenements lying in Braintree, called by the name of Clay Hills, or by any other name or names whatsoever, now in the occupation of John Harris, unto my sister Grace Tyres during the term of her natural life, and after [her] decease my will is that my said Freehold Lands be sold by my executors and trustees within one year after her decease and the money arising thereof be equally divided amongst my sister Shorey's two sons and my brother John Marsh's children, and my sister Martin's children, excepting sixty pounds to the Executors and Possessors in trust for funeral expenses and other charges, and as for my personal estate I give and bequeath to my Executors and Executrix only my wearing apparel to John Shorey and forty shillings to the poor in Braintree to be paid within three months after my decease at the discretion of mine Executor or Executrix hereinafter named, and I do hereby nominate [and] appoint my well beloved sister Grace Tyres Executrix and my kinsman Joseph Marsh Executor of this my last will and testament and I do request my loving friends Richard Thurlow of Cambridge, Folmonger, and Nathaniel Tyres, my brother-in-law, and William Ward of Tawling, Possessors in trust and overseers, to see this my last will and testament performed as by the said will, relation being thereunto had, may appear.
"And whereas Grace Tyres died about the fifteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred ninety and six, the said Richard Thurlow, Nathaniel Tyres and Wm. Ward being also dead, and whereas by a decretal order made in the court of Exchequer Chamber at Westminster on Thursday the seven and twentieth day of June in the twelfth year of the King, our late sovereighn Lord the King William the third, in a cause therein impending wherein John Shorey the older of Braintree in the County of Essex [husband] of Mary Shorey who was sister of Joseph Marsh the older of the same place, Clothier, John Shorey the younger and Joseph Shorey, children of the said John Shorey the older, Robert Exton of London, carmonger, and Mary his wife, one of the daughters of Lydia Martin who was one of the other sisters of the said Joseph Marsh the older, Lydia Kemphouse, widow, Sarah Conner, widow, Elizabeth, widow, now the wife of Butcher, and Anna Porter, widow, daughters of the said Lydia Martin, John Marsh, Samuel Marsh, Jonathan Marsh, Daniel Marsh, Hannah Marsh, and Lydia Marsh and Grace Phelps, all sons and daughters of John Marsh who was brother of said Joseph Marsh the older, Plaintiffs and the said Joseph Marsh Executor party to these presents Defendants:"4
The Marsh Genealogy transcribes the whole document and also provides the following synopsis:
"By the above document we learn that Joseph Marsh's will was made May 22, 1676; that under it Grace (Marsh) Tyres held the Clay Hills property until her death, March 15, 1696; that June 7, 1700 a decretal order was made in the Court at Westminster for the sale of this property to the highest bidder; that Dec. 5, 1700 the same court decreed that Jonathan Boulder be the purchaser for £71, and that the seven heirs in England having received about $30.75 apiece, release was given to him June 23, 1701, and the seven shares in America were now, May 15, 1705, seeking their sharre that would cost them more than their English cousins and if equal would only be £6, 2s. 11d. and one farthing apiece or some $215 in all. The lawyers and courts up to 1705, seem to have been nine years about it and to have taken over 20 per cent, of what they have divided."5
The document was signed by John Marsh, Samuel Marsh, Jonathan Marsh, Daniel Marsh, the mark [x] of Hannah Loomis, David Loomis in behalf of Lydia his wife, Nathaniel Phelps in behalf of Grace, his wife.6
John Marsh left a will on 15 Apr 1627. This will, by John Marsh of Branktry, county Essex, England, clothier, was probated in the PCC on 29 May 1627. It mentions many legatees, including several relatives such as "Francis [sic] Wasly my Sister now wife of Joseph Waslyn. ...
