Robert Stanley was born c 1570.2 He was buried on 1 Jun 1605 at Tenterden Parish, Kent, England.3
Mahler corrects Flagg and others on the Stanley ancestry concluding: "Thus, Flagg's researcher invented one baptism out of whole cloth, misreported another, and probably picked a third baptism that was too late to be that of the immigrant. Evidently someone provided Flagg with expected, instead of a factual, answers.
"We can now state that the three immigrant brothers were in fact sons of Robert Standley of Tenterden, Kent, as outlined below."1 "Robert's estate, which consisted of typical items such as clothing, furniture, stores of food and livestock, was valued at £51 11s 1d. (Archdeaconry of Canterbury, registered inventories, vol. 31, f. 322 [FHL film #189,041]." This inventory gives his occupation as whitesmith.4
The fact that the New England immigrants John, Thomas and Timothy were "brothers is found in a 3 March 1634/5 Massachusetts Bay court record which shows that John died before his arrival in North America, and 'left three children undisposed of, the youngest whereof is since deceased,' in care of his brothers Thomas and Timothy."5

John Staples was born on 28 Jan 1670/71 at E. Taunton, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Joseph Staples and Mary Macomber. John Staples married Hannah Leach? in 1692. John Staples died in 1749 at Raynham, Massachusetts.
"John Staples, son of Joseph and Mary (Macumber) Staples was born in Taunton, Mass. January 28, 1670/1, and married Hannah of undiscovered parentage, supposed by some to have been Hannah King but without evidence to support it. He and his mother Mary sold to Stephen Merrick land in Taunton, March 28, 1692/3, east of the Meeting House on the east side of ghe Great River, containing about six acres. This deed was acknowledged July 31, 1696, but not recorded until February 22, 11699 but it shows his father had deceased prior to 1693.
"On August 20, 1699 John sold Nicholas Smith land in the Runford Division which formerly belonged to Richard Storey which indicated some connection with that family which has not been made clear.
"On May 9, 1712 John sold Richard Godfrey his share of Cedar Swamp in Taunton North Purchase which he held in partnership with John Macumber, Jr.
"John Staples was a deacon of the First Church of Taunton as was also his son, Seth. He later became the first deacon of the church in Raynham, being one of its original members.
"In 1731 he was a selectman of Raynham. He made his will November 17, 1748 which was proven the February following. He bequeathed his wife Hannah his house in Raynham and land in Bridgewater but not his Cedar Swamp land in Raynham. As he had already given his son Seth land in Taunton by deed, he now gave him the Cedar Swamp land. He mentions his son Job, daughter Ruth and two grandchildren Abigail and Mercy Leach.2
