Elizabeth Lusby was the daughter of Robert Lusby.1
To make the John Baldwin - Elizabeth Lusby connection as done by unsupported internet postings requires showing that Elizabeth Lusby and Elizabeth Baldwin are the same person.
Elizabeth Lusby was transported to Maryland at an unknown age by her father, Robert, in 1662. She is not named in her father's will of 1674.

Elizabeth Baldwin is named as the wife of John Baldwin in his will of 1682. Her will (made 1687, probated 1691) mentions a son, Philip Dorrell. She was apparently a widow Dorrell who was subsequently the widow of John Baldwin. The mention of Ruth Howard, wife of Philip Howard, and Ruth's daughter Hannah in the wills of both John Baldwin and of Elizabeth Baldwin seems to tie them together. Thus, it was John Baldwin's wife Elizabeth who had been the widow of a Mr. Dorrell.
George Dorrell and Elizabeth were transported in 1653.2
Elizabeth Balding, spinster, of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, sold 50 acres of land to John Nicholson, planter, of Anne Arundel County, Md, on 11 Aug. 1684. This land had originally been granted to Elizabeth Balding, formerly Elizabeth Dorrell, on 24 Aug 1665. It was called Long Neck and was located by Back creek, by a bay in the river. This transaction was recorded on 12 Aug. 1684, in Liber O folio 473 at the request of Elizabeth Bostock, relict and devisee of John Nicholson. [Only one day after deeding to John Nicholson, he was dead?]3
Elizabeth Lusby and Elizabeth ______ Dorrell Baldwin are not the same person.

Robert Lusby

Last Edited26 Jan 2008
Robert Lusby died in 1674; his will was written 26 Feb. 1674 and probated 19 May 1674.1
"For paying the transportation of his family he was granted 300 acres of land in Anne Arundel County. This acreage was located between the Severn and Magothy Rivers, near the head of the Mill River and St. Margaret's Church."2
In 1662, Robert Lusby immigrated to Maryland. He transported his wife, Dorothy, his daughters Elizabeth, Rebecca and Sarah (listed by Skordas as 1663, but with the same reference to Liber and folio) and his son Jacob. This fact was entered into the records because Lord Baltimore (Cecilius Calvert), the proprietor under the Charter of Maryland, offered free land to those who tranported people to reside in his colony. in 1662.3 On 5 Aug 1664, Robert Lusby, planter of Anne Arundel county was granted 50 acres, called Lusby, on the north side of the "Seavorne" River and west side of Ferry Creek. Jacob Lusby, his son and heir, and Jacob's wife Mary sold this land to Thomas Bucknall on 4 March 1678.4
Robert left a will on 26 Feb 1674 at Anne Arundel County, Maryland. It was probated 19 May 1674. In this will, he left 50 acres on the north side of Arundel River to son Jacob. To his daughter Sarah he left some personal property. To his wife Dorothy, he left a life interest in the residue of his estate, both real and personal, including 'Georgetown'. His sons Zachariah and Robert were to inherit the plantation after the death of their mother.1

Coleman reports that "At the March court 1676, the jury presented 68 persons from 5 towns in Hampshire, 35 [sic -- 38] wives and maids and 30 young men, some for wearing silk and that in a flaunting manner and others, for long hair, and other extravagances to the offence of sober people." He continues: "One of these was Hannah Lyman, of Northampton, 16 years of age, dau. of Richard2, deceased. The record shows that this young girl possessed an independent, determined will, so characteristic of the Lyman family, flaunting her silks before the court, when arraigned for this very offence. She was prosecuted for wearing silk in a flaunting manner, in an offensive way and garb, not only before, but when she stood presented, not only in ordinary, but extraordinary times; she was fined 10s." Besides presenting an interesting story, this tells us that it was not this daughter of Hepzibah who married Joseph Loomis in 1675.7,8

The only other child for whom the parents Richard and Hepzibah Lyman are named was Moses, born 20 Feb 1662[/3]. However, in the main text, Coleman assigns Moses to Richard's brother John.
