Alonzo Olds was born in 1803.2 He was the son of Joseph Olds and Hannah Bissell.1 Alonzo Olds died on 18 Nov 18843 and was buried at Hartland Cemetery, Niagara County, New York.4,5
Alonzo Olds appeared on the census of 30 Jul 1850 at Hartland, Niagara County, New York, as follows:
Alonzo Olds, 40, farmer, b. N.Y.
in the family of Flavel, 28, and Mary J., 27, Koth.6
Alonzo Olds was probably never married. He is listed with his nephew, Lewis Olds, in 1855, 1860 and 1870 and they have not been found in 1880. The settlement of his estate is that of a man with no descendants, listing brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces.
On 22 Jan 1885, Lewis Olds as executor, presented to the Surrogate's Office in Niagara County, New York the will of Alonzo Olds, late of Royalton, Niagara County, to be probated. This will of Alonzo Olds of Hartland, Niagara County was written on 3 March 1883 and made the following bequests:
1. Hattie McNair, daughter of Lewis Olds and wife of Caleb C. McNair, $500.
2. Sarah Cook, wife of Jude Cook and daughter of Lewis Olds, $500.
3. Miss Clarry E. Olds, daughter of Lewis Olds, $500.
4. Lewis Olds, my nephew now residing in Michigan, the remainder of my property of every kind. Lewis Olds was also named executor.
On 16 March 1855, Lewis Olds with attorney, Corrydon Olds by attorney, and Albert Olds, by attorney, appeared in favor of probate and there was no opposition. Since the will was in order and recorded, it is unclear to me [DWO] why the subsequent proceedings involved so many othe people.7
On 16 Feb 1885 a citation was delivered to Harriet Castle of Gasport. She was not at home. Burt Castle received the citation and promised to forward to Harriet who was away, temporarily, on a visit. Burt Castle, about 35 years old, was a relative of Harriet.8
On 22 Jan 1885, Lewis Olds had already filed, with the Surrogate Court of Niagara County, a list of heirs of Alonzo Olds. This list differs in a few important particulars from that used in 1887. It has only 27 names. Coridon Olds and Alonzo Olds are not on it. Hezekiah Olds was of Decatur, Van Buren County, Michigan. VanRansler Olds was of Hartford, Van Buren County, Michigan. Andrew and Henry Olds were of Fairmount, Richland County, Dak. Ter. Harriet Olds was of Chicago, Illinois. "Eunice Wheaton, Cleveland, Ohio" and "Louisa Winters of Cleveland, Ohio" are listed as such.9
The estate papers of Alonzo Olds, Niagara County, New York, show that his estate paid John Cahill $6.00 "To 3 days work, guarding ruins of the fire in Middleport, N. Y. of Nov. 18 [1884] at which Alonzo Olds, lost his life to keep others from stealing valuables belonging to deceased, and at which time and place $50.00 in gold were found by said Cahill, and which is now in law by Executor, and said Estate worth $2.00 per day." Paid by Lewis Olds 14 May 1886.10
Hezekiah Olds died while Alonzo's estate was being settled. "That Hezekiah Olds, one of the next in kin of deceased, died on or about the 1st day of Oct. 1886; and Almon Olds named of Decatur, Van Buren Co., Mich. as duly appointed Administrator of his estate. That all the foregoing parties are upward of 21 years of age. That said deceased left no widow. [Signed] Lewis Olds."11
Yerington adds other significant material on the family of Alonzo Olds, taken from his administration papers in the papers of Surrogate Court, Niagara County, New York, at Lockport. "In the matter of Lewis Olds as Executor of the 'Last' Will and 'Testament' of Alonzo Olds, late of the town of Hartland, deceased. . . . Apr. 6, 1887. Geo. W. Pound, of Lockport, deposited in post office at Lockport, in said county, 2912 copies of the annexed Citation, and order of publication, sealed envelopes sent prepaid in full to wit. In her abstract of the court records on the estate of Alonzo Olds, Mrs. Yerington has given versions of this list several other times. These are items of additional or changed information that I have noted, possibly from a Lockport, N. Y., newspaper of 1887 :

Amanda Olds was born c 1802 at New York.2,3 She was the daughter of Timothy Olds.1 Amanda Olds married Archibald C. Jackson on 4 Nov 1818 at Huron County, Ohio.4,5,6 Amanda Olds died on 27 Oct 1885 at Sandusky County, Ohio.2
Although she is not in the Vital Records of Dalton, Massachusetts, Amanda is listed by Gowen as first among the children of Timothy, as follows:
"Amanda Olds, daughter of Timothy Olds and Polly Russ Olds, is the first named in a list prepared by James Hiram Olds(21). That list, while not entirely accurate, was obviously intended to be in chronological order. The 1790 census indicated that Timothy Olds then had two daughters, which tends to support the belief that Amanda was the oldest child and Roxcey the second. Amanda was born perhaps in 1785 and doubtless at Dalton, Mass. [Gowen does not appear to be correct in this -- DWO] James Hiram Olds(21) states that she married Archibald Jackson and had eleven children."1
I quote the following especially for the information on Amanda's children: "Charles Jackson is a son of Archibald C. Jackson, born in New York, 1794, died 1865. The paternal grandsire of our subject was Alexander Jackson, a soldier of the war of 1812. Archibald C. Jackson married Amanda Olds. Her children were: Nancy M., deceased, married William Gaskill; Julia A., widow of Loren Clark; Caroline, widow of E. Beaghler, Sandusky county, Ohio; Esther, deceased, wife of T. G. McIntyre; Zeno, deceased; Charles, Martin, deceased; William Clyde, manufacturer, of Hughes Shears company; David H., Oakland, Cal., a successful miner, locating for eastern capitalists; Mary, died young; Andrew, with John and James Dobbs, Philadelphia, Pa. Charles Jackson is an active member of the Methodist church."7
Amanda Jackson and Archibald C. Jackson appeared on the census of 4 Sep 1850 at Townsend, Sandusky, Ohio, as follows:
