William J. Taylor was born in Wayne County July 13, 1841, and died at Wynoose Aprli 3, 1922, aged 80 years, 8 months and 20 days. In his youth he heard his country's call to service and enlisted in 61 in Co. A 63rd Regiment of Illinois Infantry. Receiving an honorable discharge at the close of the war. He was united in marriage in 1866 to Mary Ellen Slow. To this union were born seven children: Lafe of Wyoose; John of Casper, Wyo; Ellsworth of Champaign; Mose of Jefferson, Iowa; Elmer of Tuscola, and Mary Miller of Wynoose. A daughter Doshia, died in infancy. When his youngest child was but a babe, death claimed the wife and mother. He was united in marriage to Lavina Bowers in 1885[sic]. To this union were born four children, Nina Washington of Broadus, Mont; Henry A. of Wynoose and Oscar F. of Wynoose. A son, Pearl died in infancy. He was converted in 1883 and united with the Christian Church of Wynoose. At the marriage to his present wife, he transferred his mmebership to the United Brethren Church, to which he remained faithful unto death. Of him a friend has said, "He was a good generous neighbor," another has said, "He was a loyal soldier," the sentiments of his children, "He was a kind and loving father." And so his departure comes as a personal loss to many. Besides the wife and nine children, he leaves to mourn two step-daughters, Ella Shulz and Clara Long, 24 grandchildren, one brother, John Henry of Wynoose, and hosts of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the U. B[.] Churcch at Wynoose Wednesday afternoon, conducted by pastor Rev. Blakney, at 2 o'clock, interment in Johnson Cemetery.
