"Mrs. Sarah Carey Olds.
"Died, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Ella C. Payne, Warsaw, Ky., at 11:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 19029, Mrs. Sarah C. Olds, widow of the late Lyman W. Olds, of this city. She was born in Circleville, Ohio, March 1, 1824 [sic], thus passing the three score and ten … station on life’s journey, almost reaching four score. On August 8, 1847, she was married to Lyman W. Olds, and this union continued until April 19, 1895, when the husband preceded her to the great beyond. She came to Muscatine with her husband in the early fifties and saw our city grow from its village form to its present majestic proportions. Four children came to them, Frank and George, who died in infancy, Mrs. Emma O. Reppert, who died October 9, 1900, and Mrs. Ella O. Payne, of Warsaw, Ky. Mrs. Ella O. Payne and five grandchildren survive her, Betty, Whitney and Leonard Payne, and Lyell and Ella Reppert.
"In December, 1900, she went to Kentucky, and a year afterward had the misfortune to fall and break her hip bone. The immediate cause of her death was paralysis. The passing away of Mrs. Olds makes a sad break in the ranks of our old settlers, which are fast becoming less in number.
"The deceased was a woman of strong character, a pleasing disposition, a good mother and neighbor. She was one of the early members of the First Congregational church, and when her physical infirmity permitted was always found in the sanctuary. It was in her home where her Christian virtues and graces shone brightest and as time rolled away she never forgot that she was once young and it was the young who found in her a friend. Kind friends and relatives will bring her “back to her own” from the sunny southland on next Tuesday and the following day will lay in her last resting place, alongside of her husband and the children who have already greeted her beyond the river. The funeral will be at the Reppert residence, 413 West Third street, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. After years of physical suffering and the loss of husband and children, the following lines seem appropriate: [quotation from Psalms 137:2]

" Funeral of Mrs. Olds.
"The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Olds took place yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the old family residence on West Third street, now occupied by the son-in-law of the deceased, Fred Reppert. The services were largely attended in spite of the inclemency of the weather, those present being the old friends of the deceased, who well remembered when she was active in the various circles of the city. Rev. H. D. Herr, of the Congregational church, conducted the services, speaking in tender remembrance of the deceased and her many virtues. The music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. James. H. St. John, Miss Nellie Robertson, Carl Gray and George W. Porter. The honorary pall-bearers were P. Stein, J. B. Lee, G. O. Morgridge, J. Scott Richman, T. D. Smith and J. H. Canon. The active pall-bearers J. Linn Hoopes, J. H. Munroe, Fitch W. Swan, R. B. Baird, H. M. Dean and Dr. Kulp.
"One of the floral offerings that was of a particularly beautiful design was a large covering for the casket, consisting of pink and white carnations and ferns interwoven together. There were a number of other beautiful and appropriate designs."10

Ralph Lemond Curtis was born on 14 Sep 1920 at Gaffney, South Carolina.3,4 He was the son of Jessie (?).2 Ralph Lemond Curtis married Edna Margaret Quinn, daughter of Matthew Franklin Quinn and Nannie M. Gibson, c 1944.1,5 Ralph Lemond Curtis died on 5 Mar 1954 at Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, at age 33.6 He was buried at Sunset Memorial Park, Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.7
He registered for the WWII young men draft on 16 Feb 1942 at Spartanburg County, South Carolina. He listed his name as Ralph Lemond Curtis and age as 21. He was born in Gaffney, South Carolina, on 14 Sept. 1920. His weight was 150 lbs, height was 6' 3", complexion was ruddy, eyes were hazel, hair was brown . The person who would always know his address was Mrs. B. B. Bowman of 3 and 4 Square Street, Converse, South Carolina, which was also his own adress. He was a taxi driver for Joe Brown of Rt. 2, Spartanburg..3 This Mrs. B. B. Bowman was, at first, a significant puzzle. The "Bowman Family Tree" placed on Ancestry.com by jlbowman1, includes "Asa Leander "Bud" or "Buddy" Bowman Jr." who married (1) Blanche Rusher and (2) Jesse Coulter but with no evidence for the surnames of the wives. I think I have shown here, from the overlap of several records, that Mrs. B. B. Bowman was the the wife of A. L Bowman and mother of Ralph Leander Curtis. Somehow Asa L "Bud" or "Buddy" became B. B. Bowman. Diane Scoggins confirmed the connection when she wrote "He [A. L. Bowman] was called Bud by my grandmother."8 This does require overlooking several discrepancies in the records, especially with the Curtis/Bowman children.
Ralph Lemond Curtis and Edna Margaret Quinn appeared on the census of 17 Apr 1950 at 534 Arlington, Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, as follows:
153, not a farm, Curtis, Ralph L., head, 28, marr., b. S. C., 48 hrs., phone operator, taxi cab company

"Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Sutley Funeral home, Wyanet, for George Calmar[sic] Dahl, 83. The Rev. Ervin Brink, pastor of the Wyanet Methodist church, officiated, and interment was in Forest Hill cemetery.
"Mr. Dahl passed away Friday morning in the Colonial Acres Nursing home, Sterling. He had been ill for the past seven years. He was born in Chicago Sept. 14, 1876, the son of Ole Thobson and Olive Anderson Dahl.
"He received his education in Madison, Wis. and moved to Wyanet as a young man where he had resided for approximately 45 years. He also lived for a short time in Earlville. He was a retail merchant in Wyanet, retiring about 15 years ago.

When Uncle George died, it was said that he had no living relatives (somewhat hard for a young genealogical hobbyist to believe). He was apparently from near Madison, Wisconsin. "Mr. and Mrs. George Dahl left Monday morning for Madison, Wis. They will spend a week or more touring the hills and vales of his native country."8
