Susan Woods was born on 22 Feb 1846 at Richland County, Illinois. She was the daughter of George W. Woods and Rebecca Gray. Susan Woods married George Willis Ridgely, son of Orrick Ridgely and Nancy Harrison, on 20 Dec 1865 at Richland County, Illinois.1 Susan Woods died on 1 Feb 1924 at Bonpas Township, Richland County, Illinois, at age 77; she died of cancer of the rectum.2 She was buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Bonpas Township, Richland County, Illinois.
Aunt Lora Traylor wrote to Maranda Ridgely after Oscar's death: "You spoke of Grandma Woods you know I never knew Grandpa but I have heard mother speak of him and he died at the age of 56 years but I do not know the year and Grandma was 87 years of age and died in July 1903 and I am not sure but I think she was born in Kentucky I remember mother speak about them going back in a covered wagon when she was 11 yrs old and she got to go along to help take care of the twins (Aunt Alice and uncle Allen)". This trip makes an interesting family story and we wonder when, where and with whom Kentucky visits were made.3
Susan Ridgely and George Willis Ridgely appeared on the census of 18 Jun 1880 at Bonpas Township, Richland County, Illinois, as follows:
205/205 Ridgely, George W., age 36, farmer, b. Ill., parents b. Ill.

Susan Ridgely and George Willis Ridgely appeared on the census of 26 Jun 1900 at Lukin Township, Lawrence County, Illinois, as follows: The listing shows that he was age 56, born in March 1844, and had been married for 35 years. Susan was age 54, born in Feb. 1846, had had 5 children of whom 4 were living. Zella C (?), a daughter, age 17, and born in June 1883 (!) was the only one still living at home.5 On 8 July 1909, Susan Ridgely, a widow, executed a quit-clam deed to Oscar Ridgely for 40 acres in Bonpas Township, Richland County, Illinois described as the SW 1/4 NW 1/4 S 22 T 2 N R 14 W of the second principal meridian.
Susan Ridgely appeared on the census of 24 Jan 1920 at Lukin Township, Lawrence County, Illinois, as follows:

, Howard, grandson, 26, b. IL, father b. IL, mother b. Ind.
She is listed as owner and is marked as an employer and Howard is shown as working on his own account.
The next family was that of Milo and Lora Traylor.6
Susan is listed in the Prarie Farmer's Reliable Directory of about 1920. "Ridgley [sic], Mrs. Susan (Susan Woods) ch *Oscar, *Lora, *Sarah, *Zella; Howard Ridgley, grandson; Sumner R2 Lukin S3 O140a (1920) Citizens Tel Sumner." She owned 140 acres in Section 3, Lukin Township and had become a resident of the county in 1920[??]. The asterisk indicated children not at home. Only Lora and Milo Traylor are listed separately.7 Her obituary follows:
"Susan Ridgely, daughter of George and Rebecca Woods, was born in Richland county, Illinois, February 22, 1846, and departed this life February 1, 1924, aged 77 years, 11 months and 9 days.
"She was married to George W. Ridgely December 20, 1865. To this union were born five children, one of whom died in infancy. Her husband died May 26, 1909.
"She leaves to mourn their loss one son, Oscar Ridgely, of Parkersburg, three daughters, Mrs. Lora Traylor, of Casper, Wyo; Mrs. Asa Higgins, of Parkersburg; and Mrs. Zella Moore of Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Alice Dillon, of Greenup, two brothers, George of La Verne, Calif., and John of Prosser, Wash; sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
"At the age of 14 she united with the United Brethren church of Parkersburg and she has always lived a Christian life. She loved to worship and serve her Master.
"Sister Ridgely was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a good neighbor and friend. No sacrifice was too great for her to make for her family and she was always ready to help anyone in need of her services.
"During the past few years she lived alone in Berryville, with the exception of one winter spent in the west visiting her daughters and other relatives. Her health has been failing for about one year.
"Four months ago a physical examination revealed the fact that she was a victim of cancer of the stomach. She was removed to the home of her son where the death angel found her.
"She bore her suffering with extraordinary fortitude, patiently and anxiously looking forward to the end.
"Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10:30, conducted by Rev. Stine, pastor of the U. B. church, services being held at the Church of the Brethren, burial in the adjoining cemetery by the side of her husband.
"But the sun is sloping westward,
Troubles come and cares increase,
Looking backward on happy childhood
Sighing for its hours of peace.
"Now the sun is sinking, sinking -- Gone.
Its tints fade in the west,
And old age lays down its burdens,
Dust to dust, at peace, at rest."

Elijah Woolworth was born on 14 Sep 1748 at Suffield, (in Mass. 1670 - 1749), now Connecticut.2 He was the son of Timothy Woolworth and Mercy (Mary) Old.1 Elijah Woolworth was baptized on 25 Sep 1748. Art Sikes reports a baptism for an Isaiah Woolworth on 25 Sep 1748 at the Suffield Congregational Church.3 He says that secondary sources have apparently read this as Josiah and added him to the family as a twin of Elijah but he suggests the entry is intended for Elijah.
