Woods married Rebecca Gray, daughter of Daniel Gray and Susanna Taylor, on 24 Dec 1840 at Edwards County, Illinois. George W. Woods died on 3 Jan 1876 at Wabash County, Illinois, at age 58.

Woods of Bonpas Township, Richland County, Illinois, age 44, farmer, born in Kentucky, was listed as a person of Class II subject to military duty in the 11th Congressional District consisting of Richland County. "Class II comprises all other persons subect to do military duty" meaning those not in Class I which was all persons subject to military duty between the ages of 20 and 35 years and all umnarried persons subject to military duty above the age of 35 and under the age of 45.1
