Michael Murphy was born at Ireland.1 He married Mary Curran.1
No certain records of the parents of Frank J. Murphy have been identified. Census searches have revealed a few candidates, none of whom have been connected with New Hampshire where son Frank J. Murphy was reported to have been born.
(1) Michael Murphy, age 67, was living at 905 5th St., Clinton, Iowa, in 1915. He had a 7th grade education, was affiliated with the Catholic church, was born in Ireland, had been in the US for 60 years and in Iowa for 60 years. He could read and write but was blind. His occupation was listed as "Retired:".
(2) The 1880 census of Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, lists the family of a Michael and Mary Murphy, both age 50, and both born in Ireland. Their children are John, age 17, Michael, age 14, Christiana, age 11, Frank, age 9, and Frederick, age 5.
(3) The 1880 census of Buffalo, Erie County, New York, lists a Michael and Mary Murphy, both age 38 and both born in Ireland. His occupation was laborer. Their children, all born in New York, were Edward, age 7, Frank, age 5, E. Mary, age 3, and Michael, age 1. Michael's brother "Nicholis", a 22 year old laborer born in Ireland, was living with them.
(4) The 1880 census of Utica, Oneida County, New York shows the family of Michael and Mary Murphy, both age 35 born in Ireland, and children (all born in New York) Thomas, age 13, Frank, age 10, Julia, age 8, and Kittie, age 2. Michael was a brick mason. In 1870 this same family was already in Oneida County. Miichael and Mary were age 25, Thomas was 2, and son "Frances" was 6/12, b. Dec.

"Dr. Murphy is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, class of 1937, where he also completed his pre-medical requirements. He interned at the Cook County Hospital at Chicago from 1937-38, and the following year served as resident physician at the former Olney Sanitarium here. Dr. Murphy later returned to the Cook County Hospital as resident physician in orthopedic and traumatic surgery, dealing with patients whose injuries generally resulted in Coroner's action there.
"He served overseas in the European Theater with the Medical Corps during his military service from 1942 - 1946. In Europe, he was the chief orthopedic surgeon in the army hospital there.
"Following his release from the service he returned to Olney and resumed his practice here. In an interview statement, Dr. Murphy said, "I feel, by the nature of my professional training and experience in traumatic (accidental or intentional wounds and injuries) surgery and because of my acquaintance with Coroner's procedures during my service with the Cook County Hospital, I feel that I am fully qualified for efficient administration of the Richland County Coroner's office.
"Dr. Murphy is married to the former Lois R. [sic] Ridgely of Bonpas township and has seven [sic] adopted children."15
"Electronic Voice Greets Patients for Dr. Murphy. --- "This is Dr. Murphy's office. This is his electronic secretary speaking. The doctor is out on calls. If you wish to see him leave your name and telephone number and he will call. Speak after the tone signal."

"Dr. Murphy installed the electronic secretary yesterday, and it is already proving valuable in assisting the physician in directing messages to him from his patients while he is out of his office. The secretary is especially valuable for calls received in the night as it works on a 24-hour basis. All the caller has to do is phone Dr. Murphy's office number, and the conversation is automatically begun, a record doing the secretary's voice and a wire recorder recording the message from the caller.
"It is the first one of these ingenious machines to be installed here."16
"According to the Robinson Daily News, Dr. R. B. Murphy, of Robinson and formerly a medical practitioner in Olney for several years prior to 1961, has resigned from the medical staff of the Crawford Memorial Hospital at Robinson.
"Dr. Murphy has accepted a position with a corporation in the St. Louis area that will operate emergency rooms in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. He will work two weeks and will be off two weeks. He will continue a limited practice in Crawford County and make courtesy calls at the hospital and will continue his residence at Robinson."17
"Dr. R. B. Murphy of Robinson formerly of Olney, was honored by the State Selective Service System of Illinois for his ten years of service as a medical advisor to the Crawford County Draft Board at Robinson."15

"He is survived by three sons, Roger, Edwardsville, Robert, Pittsburg, Pa., and Raymond, Champaign, three daughters, Karen Lourance[sic], Robinson, Lois Uppinghouse, Fulton, Mo., and Joyce Woodard, Carmi; a sister, Helen Murphy, Chicago, 12 grandchildren and two nephews.18

"Dr. Murphy was born in Iowa on Nov. 2, 1906 to Frank and Leona (Brereton) Murphy. He married Lois Ridgley [sic], who survives. He was a physician and surgeon and practiced in Olney, Robinson, and Danville. He was a member of several veteran and medical societies.
"He is survived by three sons, Roger, Edwardsville, Robert, Pittsburg, Pa., and Raymond, Champaign, three daughters, Karen Lourance[sic], Robinson, Lois Uppinghouse, Fulton, Mo., and Joyce Woodard, Carmi; a sister, Helen Murphy, Chicago, 12 grandchildren and two nephews.18

Summers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Roger Sullivan Murphy was born on 3 Jul 1939 at Olney, Richland County, Illinois. 1 Roger was adopted at birth by Dr. and Mrs. Murphy. He was the son of Raymond Brereton Murphy and Lois Irene Ridgely.2 Roger Sullivan Murphy died on 30 Dec 2008 at Holiday Shores, Illinois, at age 69.3
"Roger F. [sic] Murphy, son of Dr. and Mrs. R. B. Murphy and a student at Culver Military Academy, Culver, Ind., has been selected as one of 90 members of the Academy's famous Black Horse Troop to ride in the inaugural parade for President Eisenhower Jan. 21. [1957]
"He will carry a lance in the parade, as the troop rides its coal-black mounts down Pennsylvania Avenue for the third time in the history of the school. The troop took part in the 1913 and 1917 parades."4

An active community volunteer, he served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Holishor Association, including one term as its president, in addition to working with community committees. Until his health began to fail, he served on the Board of Directors of Treehouse Wildlife Center in addition to supporting a variety of other charitable causes. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Fred Roberson of Louisiana and Kentucky respectively. "He is survived by his wife, Iva of McCoy; one son, Lyle H., of Pico, Calif; two daughers, Mrs. Marjorie Stewart of McCoy and Mrs. Genevieve Powell of Moro, and seven grandchildren.

She relocated to Moro at age 11 and graduated from Moro High School. She attended Linfield College for two years where she met Leslie Stewart. They married June 28, 1935, in Moro.
"She lived in Glendale and Alturas, Calif. She returned to the family farm, located between Amity and Bethel, in 1942. She drove a bus for Perrydale School during the 1960s.
