John Foote was born s 1530 at England. He married Helen/Ellen Warren, daughter of Richard Warren (Waller) and Alice (?).2 John Foote died c 1558.1
The English ancestry of this branch of the Foote family has been carefully studied by George E. McCracken3 and by Janice Greene Valore4. McCracken had placed a Robert Foote, brother of John, at the head of this pedigree but Valore presents the argument that Robert's name is documented only on a pedigree of uncertain origin, that "Robert" had four children all named the same as those of John, that "Robert"'s unnamed wife had married one ----- Hall, trumpeter to the queen, and that, not long after John's death, "John Haull, trumpetor, and Ellen Foote, Widowe" had married on 19 Jan 1558/9 at St. Peter Cornill in London. This matches the name of John's wife. She concludes that the name "Robert" on the pedigree is an error for John.
"John Foote of Royston, Cambridgeshire, tallow candler, made his undated will which was probated 18 July 1558 (PCC 34 Noodles, see A. W. Foote's work cited above, 2:645), in which he leaves to the church of Royston, 20s; wife Helen, all lands and tenements in Royston for life; and £80 are to be divided among all his children not named at this point; to servant Maud Smythe £6/13/4 to her marriage; £3 that my brother Foote oweth to his two eldest children; to wife's brother Richard Warren the younger and to her uncle John Jenawaye of Stoone, 40s each; to wife the rest; to son Robert a goblet, feather bed and bedding; to son John Foot a silver salt, father bed and bedding; to Aves Foote and Elizabeth Foote, daughters, each three of the best spoons, bed and bedding; all the remainder to wife named executrix; witnesses William Meede, citizen and grocer of London; John Jenaway, Nicholas Warreyn of Bassingbourn and Richard Warreyn of Bassingbourn."1

It appears to be a too-literal interpretation of his apprenticeship statement which McCracken (p. 205) quotes as being signed on 21 Sep 1652, not specifically saying Nathaniel became 16 on that day.

Robert Foote was born s 1550 probably in Royston, Cambridgeshire, England. He was the son of John Foote and Helen/Ellen Warren.2,3 Robert Foote married Joan Brooke, daughter of John Brooke and Elizabeth Whetman, on 18 Jun 1576 at St. Leonard's in Eastcheap, London, England.4,5 Robert Foote was buried on 16 Feb 1608/9 at Shalford, Essex, England.4
Robert Foote "was probably born at Royston, Cambridgeshire, but died in London between 27 Jan. and 15 Feb. 1608/9, dates of execution and probation of his will (PCC 21 Dorset = Waters 1276 f.), buried at Shalford, Essex, 16 Feb. 1608/9. He had probably also lived at Wethersfield, Essex, the early parish registers of which have not survived. At an unknown time and place but early enough so that he had at least two sons at the time of making his will who were above the age of 24, Joan Brooke, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Whetman) Brooke of London, and sister of the wife of his brother John Foote.
