"S. A. Healy's mill, occupied by him in the manufacture of plane and sawhandles, and by Henry L. Eddy in the general turning business, occupies the mill privilege originally constructed by William Williams, in 1839. The original dam was about 200 yards higher up the stream, and the mill about thirty rods above the present location. This property has had many owners. L. K. Baker and Rufus Hyde used it for a long time for a saw-mill, carding works, broom handle and button works, until about 1849, when G. W. Rhodes succeeded Baker and commenced the manufacture of plane handles about that year. In June, 1850, the dam was destroyed, and Rhodes substituted a steam engine in place of water-power, and in 1852 the present mill, which had formerly done good service at the Green Mountain academy, located at Worthington, was erected and run by steam till 1860, when Parsons & Healy became sole proprietors of the mill rights and erected the dam as it stands. About 1864 S. A. Healy became sole owner and continues the business, employing from three to six hands. After the loss of the dam in 1850, Rufus Hyde conceived the idea and carried it into execution, of building a dam higher up the stream, bringing the water a part of the way on the opposite side of the river and thence across the river in a cylinder into the old canal. This proved an expensive experiment, although temporarily successful. Hyde and his wife were both drowned in a flood at Rowe, Mass., while trying to save his mill from destruction."
"Rufus [Hyde], born November, 1819, married Catherine Emely Olds of Middlefield, and they settled in Chesterfield. They had four sons, Elwin, Clarence, and Oscar, partners of the Safety Emery Wheel Company in Bridgeport and St. Louis, and a son, David, a farmer in California."9
Rufus Hyde, age 49, married male, sawyer, b. Mass., died in Oct. 1869. Also, Catherine E. Hyde, age 39, married female, keeping house, died in Oct. 1869. One annotation for each says "Drowned in the great freshet of Oct. 4, 1869." Another says "family not in town" -- thus the census taker could not post the number of the census family in which the deceased belonged.7

He immigrated on 22 Nov 1752 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On this date, at a Council in the Courthouse in Philadelphia, Joseph Infeld was listed among those foreigners who had arrived in the Ship Phoenix with Captain Ruben Honor, from Rotterdam and last for Cowes. As is usual in these lists, nothing connects him with his previous or subsequent history. It may be just a coincidental finding of a familiar name in a large list of names.2
In the records of Conejohela of Canadochly Church, now located in Lower Windsor Township of York County, Pennsylvania, Joseph and Christine Infeld had three children recorded.
