"28. James Miles "Big Jim" EASLER (John Adam-9, Jacob Tobias-8, Tobias-7, Jacob-6, Hansz Jacob-5, Ulrich Hanss Jacob-4, Hans-3, Peter-2, Uric-1) was born on 4 Oct 1858 in Cherokee Springs, Spartanburg, SC. He died on 30 Jul 1937 at the age of 78 in Cherokee Springs, Spartanburg, SC. He was buried on 1 Aug 1937 at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherokee Springs, Spartanburg, SC. James Miles Easler was a much respected man in the Cherokee Springs Community of Spartanburg, SC. He was not only a successful businessman, but played the primary role in the founding of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He was something of a philanthropist, always ready to help those who were in need. At his funeral at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, cars were parked along the two roads bordering the church, in both directions, as far as the eye could see. One incident in his life that might, at first reading, seem a contradiction in the life of the man everyone respected. But we must remember that he was the product of a by-gone century and things were far different then than they are today. There is no doubt that “Big Jim” Easler loved his children dearly and wanted the best for them. But, children in those days were accepted to render absolute obedience to their parents. Any deviation from this was not tolerated. The pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church came by one evening to see James and his family. They were having cornbread and milk for supper. Aurelia Lancaster Easler invited him in and told him he was welcome to eat with them. She said, “If ou’re a Christian its good enough for you and if you’re not, it’s too good for you.”
James Miles "Big Jim" EASLER and Aurelia Essendine "Ede" LANCASTER were married on 11 Apr 1881 in Rutherford, Rutherford, North Carolina. Aurelia Essendine "Ede" LANCASTER, daughter of Luther Rice LANCASTER and Jane Essendine PADGETT, was born on 20 Mar 1861 in North Carolina. She died on 3 Jan 1939 at the age of 77 in Cherokee Springs, Spartanburg, SC. She was buried on 4 Jan 1939 at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherokee Springs, Spartanburg, SC."9

     His obituary states:
               J. M. Easler
Funeral services for J. M. Easler, 78, who died at his Cherokee Springs home Froday night, will be conducted at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the Mount Pleasant Baptist church by the Rev. C. A. Kirby, the Rev. B. L. Blackwell, and the Rev. Dallas Mathis. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Sons will serve as active pallbearers.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Aurela Easler, and the following children:

John Adam Easler was born on 27 Oct 1816 at South Carolina.1,3 He was the son of Jacob Easler and Barbara "Hettie" Blanton.2 John Adam Easler married Lydia Matilda McAbee in Jan 1841.4 John Adam Easler died on 13 Dec 1891 at age 75.3 He was buried at Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery, Whitney, Spartanburg County, South Carolina.5
Lawrence Easler has this to say about John:
"John Adam Easler enlisted in the 9TH SOUTH CAROLINA REGIMENT, COMPANY I at the start of the Civil War. It is noted that this is the same unit that his son, Mitchell B. Easler, enlisted in. This was a father and son enlistment. Both were sworn in on the day of the 1st Battle of Manassas. John became ill shortly afterward and was sent home. He was placed in the 7th South Carolina Regiment of Reservist, Company C.
"After the death of his son William Calvin Easler in 1875, John Adam Easler went to court to get custody of his grandchildren, James Harland, Frances and Minta Easler from the Dillards. . . .
"John Easler was four days shy of 73 when he married Mary Harvey, under what can only be concluded as unusual
circumstances. He had double-dated with a young man and ended up marrying the youth's date. Mary is said to have
been only 18 at the time. To say the least, the children of John Easler were unhappy with the marriage. Mary was said to
have been very lazy and when John was on his deathbed, "just laid around and wouldn't do nothin'."
"John Adam EASLER and Lydia Matilda "Tilda" MCABEE were married. Lydia Matilda "Tilda" MCABEE, daughter
of William Charles MCABEE and Nancy SPARKS, was born on 4 Aug 1820 in Spartanburg, SC. She died on 24 Nov 1886 at the age of 66 in Cherokee Springs, Spartanburg, SC. She was buried on 25 Nov 1886 at Liberty UM Church Cemetery in Liberty Methodist Ch, Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States. . . .
"John Adam EASLER and Mary HARVEY were married on 13 Oct 1889 in Spartanburg, SC. Mary HARVEY was born
in 1871."6
